2008-2009 Final FAST Meet

Well that's a wrap!!

One hundred registered swimmers attended the Final FAST (Fun Achieving Skills Together) Meet on February 22nd at Saanich Commonwealth Place.  Coaches were pleased to see new levels of confidence and improved abilities with regards to the racing side of our school swim programs. Parents volunteered and cheered on their school teams and their own children.  Swimmers stood up strong and tall and really wanted to race - many swimmers tried different strokes for the first time and we had the most participants in the 50 Freestyle in this meet. Swimmers happily received ribbons in heats and for participating. Well done everybody!!

As a competitive sport, swimming makes individual achievement possible in a team environment – with you, the swimmer, racing the clock and your previous best times.  Most swimmers achieved best times over the course of this year’s racing season. Complete results for the FAST Final are available from our results page.

We would like to thank the program sponsors, parent volunteers and swimmers for working so hard and making this component of Pacific Coast Swimming programs so successful.  Next year we will again have November, December and January FAST meets followed by the FAST Final in February.

And, as your school swim programs wind down please remember that there are opportunities to keep swimming this year, this summer and this fall!!  Contact us at 250-727-9243 or email Rod Barratt for more information.

School F.A.S.T. League

F.A.S.T = Friends Achieving Skills Together

The PCS FAST School Swimming League consists of between 10 and 20 schools each year or 250 - 500 swimmers. The program is based on the popular Lighting Fast Swim Series available at many local pools such as Gordon Head, Oak Bay and SCP as well as at UVic's McKinnon and Ian Stewart Pools.

The culmination of the season's training is a series of races at Saanich Commonwealth Place. Occasionally these races take place during a break in a larger competitive meet, so these school-based swimmers have the opportunity to see what would occur should they decide to try swimming in a full-time competitive program.
