SEVILLE, Spain – Karley Stutzel of Victoria finished 33rd on Saturday in the women’s 10 kilometre race at the FINA World Open swimming championships.

The 10 kilometre races for the men and women this weekend are Olympic qualifying events as open water makes it Games debut this August in Beijing. The men’s race is on Sunday.

SEVILLE, Spain – Karley Stutzel of Victoria expects one of the roughest races in her career this Saturday in the women’s 10-kilometre event at the 5th FINA World Open Water Championships which runs until next Thursday on the calm Guadalquivir river.

The two Downing children were with their father in the change room at the swimming pool. He got them dried and dressed and had just dropped his own Speedo trunks when his daughter bolted out the door.

Only 13 months old, she didn’t so much run as totter towards the water. Her mother, working as a lifeguard, came running. Her father, his trunks pulled back up, scrambled onto the swimming deck.

Some of Canada's most recognized Paralympic athletes will be at Ottawa's Clifford Bowey Public School, April 28, to launch the Canadian Paralympic Committee's Beijing 2008 Ambassador Team program.

Wheelchair racer and Paralympic multi-gold medallist Chantal Petitclerc will discuss with the students the role sport has played in her life and how support can help propel athletes to greater performances.
