2014 Age Group Nationals

Day Two Summary

2 Bronze, for Kormendy and Relay!

UVPCS was strong in the middle of the field and came up with some strong swims but was mainly kept off the podium tonight.

Twelve year old Jessica Luo in her first national competition just kept coming in the 100m Freestyle to finish in her best and 6th spot in 1:01. Minutes later she swam the 400m Individual medley jsut over her best for 7th place.

Molly Gowans continued to psik up her speed in her second competition in two weeks taking fifth position in 100m Free just over her best. Her time was 58.3.

The 400IM netted the first medal of the evening for the club. Eden Kormendy chopped 3 seconds off her best in the preliminaries and stood up against a faster field to clip another 4 off this evening. Her time of 5:16 gave her a bronze, her second medal of the competition. Several minutes later Jordan Andrusak was in the water in the 15 year old girls event. She swam a technically very strong race from start to finish and rubbed 2 seconds from her best time to finish just off the podium in 4:58 and fourth place.

Lauren Crisp had a very storng 50m Back but could not repeat her win from the night before. The 50m distance tends to be her biggest challenge but an improved start held her in to finish fourth in 31.1.

In the session's final event 4x200 Free Relay the 14 and U girls team of Gowans, Ballantyne, Crisp and Kormendy challanged all the way through for top two spots. Eden Kormendy slipped before the race and hurt her back but managed to keep the team in the race and stayed tough on the fina leg to help her teammates net the bronze in 8:49.

UVPCS finished the session in 3rd on the girls side just behind second place Missisauga Aquatic Club. The team is 10th overall.
