2014 Langley Meet Day 1 Finals

Today was a great day of swimming for PCS, we had lots of fun and lots of finalists!

Tonight in the 400 freestyle finals, we had Jemma Stevens go a 5.50.83, she dropped 6 seconds from prelims! Kennedy Aragon-Scriven dropped ten seconds from her 400 freestyle prelim time to go a 4.51.68, her first time under 5 minutes, way to go Kennedy! Lia Lancaster was an alternate for 400 free, her prelim time was 4.56.0.(also first time under 5:00)

In the 100 meter backstroke, Jemma Stevens went in to lane 2 almost directly after her 400 freestyle and pulled a 1.27.42, one second slower than prelims, but managed to hold her entry place of 5th! Kennedy also made the 100 back final, and went a 1.18.36, two seconds more than prelims, but, like Jemma, went almost straight in to the 100 after her 400.

Kali Lancaster was an alternate in 200 breastroke.

The first heat of 100 butterfly was very exciting, with Kathryn Lee and Teagan Hunt both in it. Kathryn was in lane 5 and Teagan in lane 6. At the beginning, Kathryn was just behind the first girl by a meter, but slowly caught up by doing very good under water dolphin kicks and beat the girl in the last 20 meters and had a strong finish of 1.22.72, dropping 4 seconds from prelims. Teagan also had a very exciting race. We were all cheering for the girls, as it was a very tight race. She was going in fourth, and after 75 meters, got a hold on third and hung on until the end, going a 1.28.3, dropping 3 seconds from the morning and getting her well-earned AAA!. Thanks for the exciting race Teagan and KathrynKennedy, in her third final of the night, didn’t have much competition because her time was so fast, and went a 1.09.48, dropping 2 seconds from prelims and coming in first.

On the boys side of things, Anthony Gutierrez was an alternate, but someone didn’t show, so he got to race the 100 fly in lane 5, and went a 1.35.3, 0.5 better than the morning.

In her final swim of the night, Kennedy had the 200 IM, and went a 2.44.38. I think she got a little tired after three other consecutive finals, performing well in those and going personal bests in two.

The last event of the night, 50 meter freestyle, Kali was an alternate, and Anthony made the final, going in 6th and going a 31.97, a personal best by one second! Good job Anthony.

Congratulations to PCS on their performance tonight in Langley!
