Day 1 at Age Group Nationals - PCS on the Podium with 2 gold and 2 bronze!

PCS created a fair bit of buzz on the first day at Age Group Nationals in Calgary, landing one new VIR Record, two Gold medals, two Bronze medals and few more finals swims.  At the end of the day, the team is ranked 7th place overall and second of the BC clubs, with the girls team sitting at 5th and the boys at 13th.  We will be looking to move up the rankings in the coming days.

In the girls' 13 year old 1500 freestyle, Sophie Lorette was a bit off her best, but still won Gold, clearing the field by 9 seconds in a time of 17:50.19.  Erin Jennings took 17 seconds off of her best time in the girls' 15 year old 1500 Freestyle to go 18:14.11 and earn a trip to the podium.  Erin will take home the Bronze medal after beating 4th place out by a mere half a second! 

Later on at night, Michael Schmidt swam himself to a new VIR Record and Gold Medal in the boys 13 & Under 50 Breast.  After coming to the meet with a time of 31.97, Michael dropped to 31.03 at finals to win by nearly a full second!

In the girls' 13 year old 200 Backstroke, Hana Edwards swam close to her best time in a time of 2:23.99, which was good for the Bronze Medal.  Hana came back at a blistering pace in the final 50, but teh eventual silver medallist was able to up her speed and hold her place.

Many of our other finallists were able to make moves up the field at night to claim valuable points for team PCS.  Keir Ogilvie moved up in the 100 Butterfly from 8th to 6th place by going his best time of 1:02.25.

Jessica Luo, having qualified in 6th, finishing 4th in the girls 14 year old 100 Butterfly in a time of 1:04.31.

Hannah Lorette swam her best time of 2:23.76 in the girls' 15 year olds 200 Backstroke to move up from 6th to 5th in finals.

Other finalists include:

Kelsey Andrusak with a best time 34.44 in he 50 Breast for 8th place, and Brendan Fitzpatrick 5th in the 50 Breast in a time of 32.98.  Way to go swimmers!
