Hyack Invitational Day 2 Recap

Pacific Coast Swimming continued their roll on day two of the Hyack Invitational. The Bolts captured a number of relay medals, and Anthony Guitierrez eclipsed the 1:00 minute mark in the Boys 12-13 100 Freestyle for the first time to lead the charge for the squad from Victoria.

The relay team of Lily Chen, Anastasia Trudel, Kali Lancaster and Trinity Aragon-Scriven got the second night of finals started on the right note, as they claimed a bronze medal in the Girls 12 and Under 200 Freestyle relay.  In the Boys 12 and Under 200 Freestyle relay, Dylan Kormendy, Taiki Hiaoka, Nathan Chow and Kaleb Lee earned valuable points for the Bolts with their eighth place finish.

Anthony Guitierrez, Jacob Rambo, Keir Ogilvie and Michael Schmidt touched the wall in 1:49.17, to earn themselves a bronze medal in the Boys 13-14 200 Freestyle relay.  In the Girls 15-18 200 Freestyle relay, the team of Kelsey Andrusak, Erin Lawrance, Allison Hampton and Lia Lancaster touched the wall in second place after a tight battle with both VPSC of Vancouver and the King Aquatic Club out of Seattle.  All three teams finished within seven tenths of a second of each other after multiple lead changes within the two hundred meters.

In the 200 Fly, Keir Ogilvie went a lifetime best by over two seconds on his way to a silver medal in the Boys 12-13 category.  Ogilvie was back at it in the 100 Backstroke, swimming another best time as he touched the wall in fifth place.  Nathan Chow swam to a seventh place finish in the Boys 11 and Under 100 Back, with his time of 1:22.69.  On the girls side of things, Grace MacDonald and Allison Hampton both earned eighth place finishes in the 12-13 100 Fly and 16-18 200 Back respectively.

The Boys 12-13 100 Freestyle saw the top six swimmers finish within one second of each other.  In the mix was Pacific Coast Swimming’s Anthony Guitierrez, who dipped under the one-minute mark for the first time with his 2nd place finish in a time of 59.07.  Teammate Michael Schmidt was close behind, touching the wall in a time of 59.47 in fourth place.

The depth of Pacific Coast Swimming was on full display in the Girls 200 Freestyle, as Sophie Tarrant, Kelsey Andrusak and Erin Jennings finished second, third and sixth respectively in the 14-15 year old category.  The storyline was the same in the Girls 16-18 200 Freestyle as the Bolts had Erin Lawrance, Victoria von Sacken Nash and Allison Hampton finish first, fourth and sixth place respectively.

In the Boys 12-13 400 IM, Michael Schmidt touched the wall in fourth place, while teammate Tom Chapman was close behind in sixth position.  Jacob Rambo swam to a seventh place finish in a time of 5:07.39 in the Boys 14-15 400 IM.

The Bolts are back at it on Sunday for one last day at the Hyack Invitational in New Westminster.  Following the final day of competition, Pacific Coast Swimming will turn their focus to the Vancouver Island Regional Long Course Championships, taking place June 3rd to June 5th at Saanich Commonwealth Place.
