PCS On Top on Day One!

Hot and sticky is how the first day felt at the 2015 Provincial Champs. And Pacific Coast Swimming were both of those. A lot of hot swimming in the pool and a lot of sticking to the plan at hand nudged PCS to the day one team score lead just ahead of Richmond Rapids...by a scant 2 points. The weekend will be a great race for the team title.

Records began falling in the morning for PCS with a new mark for Jessica Luo for 13-14 girls 50m FL (29.51) and continued in finals in the evening:

Antony Gutierrez scored a 3rd place finish in 400m FR cutting 8 sec from the previous record for 11-12 boys. This gave Gutierrez his 3rd Age Group National standard booking him a trip to Quebec later this summer.

Michael Schmidt wiped out the VIR record from 1989 in 200m BR and his time of 2:38 zeroed in on the provincial mark of 2:36. Brenden Fitzpatrick concluded in 4th and added his second Age Group National standard.

11-12 Boys 4x50 FR Relay team of Gutierrez, Fitzpatrick, Ogilvie and Schmidt swam under the existing National Age Group record and Provincial Record but finished 2nd to Rapids and had to bow to the new record holders. More challenges to come!

15-17 girls 4x50 FR Relay of Rachel Sawchuk (adding her 2nd AGN time), Allison Ballantyne, Erin Lawrance and Molly Gowans took the club 15-17 record, club Senior record and the VIR record off the books and narrowly missed the provincial mark at 1:49.78 taking 3rd to Rapids and ISC with older girls.
