Successful Weekend for Open Water Crew at Megantic

The 10km Open Water World Cup took place in Megantic, Quebec this past weekend.  PCS was represented by three swimmers - Stephanie Horner, Vicky Mock and Kaitlin Gervais all raced, and were coached by Ron Jacks.

Often in the days leading up to World Cup races, the race organizers hold a 'Sprint Event' at the venue for a small cash prize and some fun racing for the spectators to see.  Thursday, the swimmers took part in a 1km race.  Stephanie came 3rd overall, Kaity was 6th and Vicky was 7th.  These were good swims for the girls, and served as a good warmup for the race on Sunday.  Water was cold at 19 degrees, and was fairly choppy.

During the main event, Steph and Vicky fought their way into the lead pack of 8 swimmers, where they stayed for most of the race.  Steph hung on until the last 300 meters before falling off the pace, finishing in 5th place in a time of 2:24:05.8, less than a minute behind the eventual winner.  Vicky fell off a bit at around 8.5km, and finished 8th overall in a time of 2:28:02.8.

Kaity swam most of the race on her own unfortunately, but was still able to achieve a top ten finish in tenth in a time of 2:35:20.9.

Congratulations Swimmers!
