UVPCS Open Water Swimmers Continue to Perform Well in Mexico

Last weekend the FINA 15km, again held in Cozumel, Mexico , saw two UVPCS swimmers again finish in the top 30. Opposed to the 10km which featured 8 laps of the 1.25km course, the 15km was 12 laps.

In a race with alot of changing scenarios, it was won by Simone Ruffini of Italy with a time of 3:03:22. However, Ruffini came from behind to win as at the 10km mark, Christian Reinhardt of Germany had a 45 second lead, but he subsequently lost his lead by the 12km mark. He finished 11th.

Richard Weinberger lead the way for the Canadians coming in 7th with a final time of 3:04:31. Following him was fellow UVPCS swimmer Aimeson King finishing with a time of 3:21.14 which netted him a 26th place finish. Rounding out the Canadian contingent was Xavier Desharnais who finished directly behind King with a time of 3:21:29, good for 27th place.

Now the pair will return to Victoria and begin to gear up for the summer events! Good job and and good luck Richard and Aimeson!
