VIR's Day 1 Recap

Pacific Coast Swimming had an impressive first day at the Vancouver Island Regional Championships with ninety-four individual finals swims.  In total the Bolts have ninety-two athletes competing at the three-day meet being held at Saanich Commonwealth Place.  The meet marks the first weekend of championship racing for the squad, as they gear up for the summer ahead with racing at AA Provincials, AAA Provincials, Canadian Age Group Championships, and Senior National Championships on the horizon. 

In the 10 & Under 200 Medley Relay, the girls team of Madea Solberg, Julia Hajash, Maya Stevens, and Sophia Malachowski placed second, while the boys team of Connor Mar, Atanas Tchaouchev, Nolan Crisp, and Griffin Arnatt placed first. 

The Girls 11 & Under 200 Medley Relay saw Maia Denis, Sabine Black, Elizabeth Jenkins, and Alexander Charlotte claim a silver medal.  On the boys side of the 11 & Under 200 Medley Relay saw Griffin Arnatt, Nolan Crisp, Kaleb Lee, and Nathan Chow capture the gold medal, while teammates Dominic Huang, Arran Robertson, Bill Dongfang, and Isaac Pang took home the silver medal. 

In the Girls 12-13 Medley Relay, the team of Hana Edwards, Laura Rincon, Sophie Lorette, and Lily Chen ran aay with the race finishing first ten seconds ahead of their competition.  The team of Sydney Meldrum, Kali Lancaster, Teagan Hunt, and Georgia Ballantyne placed fifth, while Stephani Borissov, Trinity Aragon-Scriven, Bijou Speirs, and Anastasia Trudel placed sixth.  In the Boys 12-13 200 Medley Relay, Tom Chapman, Michael Schmidt, Keir Ogilvie, and Anthony Gutierrez placed first, while teammates Dylan Kormendy, Aedan Crocker, Taiki Hiraoka, and Brendan Chow came in second.

The Girls 14-15 200 Medley Relay saw three Pacific Coast Swimming teams place in the top eight, with the team of Hannah Lorette, Sophie Lorette, Jessica Luo, and Lia Lancaster leading the way placing first.  Kira Edwards, Kelsey Andrusak, Grace MacDonald, and Fionnuala McKenna placed fifth, while the team of Jane Maycock, Emily Laidman, Kealey Scott, and Erin Jennings came in sixth. The team of Jacob Rambo, Michael Schmidt, Artem Kuklev, and Miyu Dobashi also touched the wall in first to claim a gold medal in the Boys 14-15 200 Medley Relay.

In the Girls 16 & Over 200 Medley Relay, the team of Jordan Andrusak, Haley Bennett, Emma Murdock, and Rachel Sawchuk tied for first with their time of 2:07.71.  On the boys side, Justin Howe, Cale Murdock, Stefan Nasedkin, and David Hiebert claimed a sliver medal with their time of 2:01.08.
