VIR's Day 2 Recap
Day two of the Vancouver Island Regional Championships was another strong showing for Pacific Coast Swimming. The Bolts saw over one-hundred final appearances, and fifty-six individual podium finishes.
In the Girls 10 & Under 200 Free Relay, the team of Sophia Malachowski, Julia Hajash, Maya Stevens, and Heidi Henry claimed the bronze medal, while teammates Evelyn Li, Madea Solberg, Taryn Mercer, and Lucy Hallett placed fifth. In the Boys 10 & Under 200 Free Relay, Griffin Arnatt, Alonso Gutierrez, Atanas Tchaouchev, and Nolan Crisp took home the gold medal with their winning time of 2:25.23.
The Girls 11& Under 200 Free Relay saw the team of Maia Denis, Charlotte Alexander, Misato Hiraoka, and Elizabeth Jenkins brought home a silver medal, while Sabine Black, Madea Solberg, Emma Atwell, and Tahlia Reid touched the wall in sixth place. On the boys side, the team of Nathan Chow, Nolan Crisp, Griffin Arnatt, and Bill Dongfang took first place, while the team of Dominic Huang, Kaleb Lee, Isaac Pang, and Arran Robertson swam to a third place finish.
The Pacific Coast Swimming relay dominance continued in the Girls 12-13 200 Free Relay, with the team of Lily Chen, Hana Edwards, Georgia Ballantyne, and Sophie Lorette coming first with their time of 1:56.57. Close behind were teammates Jemma Stevens, Anastasia Trudel, Trinity Aragon-Scriven, and Laura Rincon in fourth, and the team of Sydney Meldrum, Bijou Speirs, Kali Lancaster, and Mehr Abrar in fifth. In the Boys 12-13 200 Free Relay the team of Anthony Gutierrez, Tom Chapman, Keir Ogilvie, and Michael Schmidt touched first, while the Dylan Kormendy, Aedan Crocker, Taiki Hiraoka, and Brendan Chow swam to a third place finish.
In the Girls 14-15 200 Free Relay, the squad of Lia Lancaster, Kelsey Andrusak, Grace MacDonald, and Jessica Luo took home the gold medal, while the team of Mackenzie Muller, Jane Maycock, Emily Laidman, and Hannah Lorette came in fifth place. The relay of Jacob Rambo, Miyu Dobashi, Anthony Gutierrez, and Artem Kuklev claimed gold in the Boys 14-15 200 Free Relay.
The 16 and Over category saw the girls team of Allison Hampton, Allison Ballantyne, Haley Bennett, and Rachel Sawchuk touch first, while the team of Emma Murdock, Sophie Tarrant, Lauren Crisp, and Anna Letkeman was close behind with their second place finish. The boys team of David Hiebert, Cale Murdock, Stefan Nasedkin, and Justin Howe also took home a gold medal in the last relay of the day.
