Moses Lake Summer 2018

The 14 swimmers who took part in the Moses lake meet this summer really enjoyed themselves. The Moses lake summer heat was on reaching temperatures of up to 39C!! This is a really nice start to summer and gives the swimmers a new challenge in the pool to swim without sight lines on the ceiling. Most of our backstroke and IM swimmers did a great job and rarely had any lane rope trouble.

Swimming fast long course this time of year can be tough outdoors but the swimmers continue to show improvements.

Ron Jacks to be Inducted into the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame

July 18, 2018 — Ryan Clouston

In May the Hall of Fame announced its 2018 inductees. Four athletes will be inducted – Dave Calder (Rowing), Rich Harden (Baseball), Alison Murdoch (Golf) and Deb Whitten (Field Hockey). In addition three-time Olympic swimmer Ron Jacks will be honoured in the coaching category for services to swimming, and Ian Lamplugh in the official’s category for baseball. The two builder inductees will be Yeiji Inouye (Judo) and Hugh MacDonald (Multi-sports). Congratulations to all inductees. After the announcement was made, we heard with deep sadness that Yeiji Inouye passed away in June.

Day 1 at Tier 2’s

July 7, 2018 — Lia Lancaster

Day 1 at Tier 2’s started off with some very strong swims from PCS, in both the prelims and finals session. Hannah Lorette, celebrating her 17th birthday, made her first Junior Canadian Standard in the 200 backstroke with a 2:22.84 in the morning; what a way to start her birthday! The celebrations didn’t stop there though, with Nolan Crisp breaking a club record from 2015 in the 50 back, going a 32.93 and putting his name up on the record board again. In the distance events, Naeva Scott-Bouris smashed the competition, winning the 800 free with an incredible negative split of 10 seconds.

Tier 1 Session #5

June 25, 2018 — Ryan Clouston

The Final session of the Tier 1 meet in Kelowna ended with another long session but PCS swimmers carried on with their fast swimming.
The morning started off with the 200 Medley mixed relay, Followed by the 200 Backstroke. Nolan Crisp was our only scorer, breaking a 10 year old club record held by Ryan Howe in a time of 2:24.89 winning the event by over 5 seconds.

Tier 1 Session 4

June 24, 2018 — Ryan Clouston

Pacific Coast Swimmers continued to swim well during the 4th session of the Swim BC Tier 1 Championships in Kelowna BC.
Nolan Crisp was our first individual event scorer of the session in the boys 11&U 200IM A Final where he finished in 5th place, slightly off his best time from the morning session.
Alonso Gutierrez was also in the 200IM and placed 3rd in the B Final for 11th overall and under his best time by over 3 seconds.

Tier 1 - Session 3

June 23, 2018 — Ryan Clouston

Saturday a.m. started with 2 events 200 IM with over 370 entries!! 45 heats later PCS finished with 20 out of 21 best times!!

Congratulations to the swimmers who endured that number of heats and were still able to perform at their best.

Griffin, Nolan, and Alonso will have another chance at the finals this afternoon.

After that a.m. swim PCS boys are placed 6th overall and combined we are 9th.

Griffin Arnatt broke a long standing 400 Freestyle club record (2003) previously held by long time PCS and UVic swimmer Craig Dagnall.

Tier 1 - Session 2

After a short break as the meet is large, and run short course in one pool only the swimmers returned for session 2.

The session began with the 200 Medley Relays our 12 & Under girls place 13th 2 seconds out of the top 8 positions.

The boys 13 & U relay placed 2nd in a time of 2:04.21 just behind VPSC with some good efforts and Nathan Chow closing fast in a time of 26.18.

Next up was the 200 Free final in which Nolan placed 3rd in a time of 2:17.11. Followed by Griffin who finished in 7th.

Tier 1 - Session 1

The Pacific Coast Tier 1 swimmers had a really good first session, swimming lifetime best Short course times in 22 out of 24 swims. That 92% best time percentage at this time of the swim season is a job really well done.
A good percentage of our team is at or near the bottom of their age groups eg. 11 year old girl in the 11/12 age group. The meet is very competitive as the whole province is represented.. 34 teams in total. PCS has 19 swimmers at the meet one of the larger clubs represented.

Eric Hedlin and Jon McKay finish 2nd and 4th at Flowers Sea Swim!

June 18, 2018 — Ryan Clouston

This morning Eric and Jon swam in the Flowers Sea Swim at Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. Eric finished 2nd, losing out only to former World Champion and Olympic 4th place swimmer Jordan Wilimovsky. Jon McKay was the 3rd place Canadian, placing 4th, just 0.5 seconds behind Hau-Li Fan of Vancouver. Coach Ron Jacks described it as a 'Great Race' for both Eric and Jon. Congratulates swimmers and coaches!
