Australian-born Deegan Chasing Open Water Dream in Victoria

*See original story here* VICTORIA - Growing up playing cricket and Australian football, Christopher Deegan would have never thought to be ranked within Australia's top 10 open water swimmers, consecutively for five years.

At the age of nine, after participating in a school carnival race with little to no experience in the water, Deegan decided to take on the sport by joining a competitive swimming club.

2019 Winter Provincial Championships

March 13, 2019 — Ian Mattock

Day 1: UVPCS’s Naeva Scott Bouris started off the Swim BC Winter Provincial Championships with a gold medal performance in the Women’s 14&U 1500FR, while her teammates Teagan Hunt and Jane Maycock placed 7th and 11th respectively in the Women’s 15&O 1500FR. The night concluded with a 2nd place finish for Jacob Rambo, Henrique Ballarin, Sydney Meldrum and Lily Chen in the Mixed Medley Relay which are comprised of 2 female and 2 male swimmers.

Day 2 - 2019 Duncan Spring Invitational

On the 2nd day of Spring Break Invitational, PCS swimmers continued to show great performances. The day started off 200 FR, in which 4 11 & U boys under 3 minutes for the first time; Isacc Liu, Ethan Woo, Kieran Feenstra, and Noah Hicks. Simon DeRosnay kept up his stellar performance from day 1 with his first ever 200 FL, finishing first with the time of 3:14. In 100 BR, Ethan Woo took off 5 seconds to go 1:40 for the first time, Elliot Pierce dropped 13 seconds.

Day 1 - 2019 Duncan Spring Invitational

PCS had 40 swimmers take part in the Duncan meet today. The meet started off with the 200 IM, where Ethan Woo swam to within a second off of the Age Group Provincial standard, and Sara Ponce de Leon dropped 13 seconds off her entry time closing to within 1 second of her AGP standard as well. Elliott Pierce also dropped 33 seconds in the 200 IM having swam early morning practice prior to heading up to the meet.

Hedlin, Hanus golden on final day of U SPORTS Swimming Championship

*See original story here* VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes swimming teams earned two gold medals on Day 3 of the Odlum Brown U SPORTS Swimming Championships hosted at the UBC Aquatic Centre in Vancouver from Feb. 21-23. Third-year Vike Danielle Hanusearned her fourth medal to finish with one gold, two silver and one bronze, while fourth year Eric Hedlin won gold in the 1500-m freestyle for the second time in his university career.

Four Vikes records fall, Hanus earns third medal at U SPORTS Swimming Nationals

*See original story here* VANCOUVER – The University of Victoria Vikes wrapped up Day 2 of the 2019 Odlum Brown U SPORTS Swimming National Championship with four more school records broken, while third-year Vike Danielle Hanus earned her third medal of the championship.

Zakala breaks 32-year-old record, Hanus medals twice on Day 1 of U SPORTS Swimming Championship

*See original story here* VANCOUVER – The University of Victoria Vikes swimming teams had a successful Day 1 of the 2019 U SPORTS Odlum Brown Swimming Championships, hosted Feb. 21-23 at the UBC Aquatics Centre in Vancouver. Three short course and three long course school records were broken, while Vikes Danielle Hanus and Josh Zakala medalled in their individual events.

UVPCS are VIR Champions!

The final points totals from VIR Champions have come in, and UVPCS won as a team on both the Women's and Men's side of the competition. Our Women earned 3589.5 points to Island's 3193.5, and our Men earned 4333 points to Island's 3095.5. Congratulations to the whole UVPCS family!

Australian Open Water Nationals

We had three swimmers head over to Adelaide, Australia for the weekend to compete at the Australian Open Water Nationals. Jon McKay, Eric Hedlin and Chris Deegan all competed in both the 10km race as well as the 5km Time Trial competition.

The 5km race was fairly successful for the PCS crew - Jon McKay took home the Silver Medal in a time of 54:50.90, Eric Hedlin ended up 4th 55:04.94, and Chris Deegan finished 13th in 59:28.47.

Thank You for Another Great Xmas Cracker Meet

Well the 2019 UVPCS Xmas Cracker Meet has been pulled and all the prizes inside given out! Congratulations to all the swimmers and coaches for some great racing and fun times at the pool.

Events like this take the time and efforts of many people to plan and organize. We want to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to all the organizers and volunteers for their time and hard work in making Cracker a success!

And finally, we wish all of our PCS Family and Friends a safe and happy holidays, and look forward to seeing you again at the pool in 2019!
