11 More Medals on Last Day of SFU Meet

The second day of the SFU Clan Cup was another successful one for UVPCS swimmers, with 11 more medals, and another CIS qualification by Zac Parkes.

The first final of the night saw Rachael Newman, Danielle Newton, and Stefanie Schmidt finishing in spots 4-6 in the 200 Freestyle.  Nicholas Sinclair won a silver medal in the men’s event, with a time of 1:52.50, with Eric Stein and Ian Mattock taking spots 5 and 6.  Danielle Newton added another medal to the mix in the 50 Fly, taking 3rd spot with a time of 30.68.

Ella Dalling and Allison Wood once again made the Backstroke final with the 100 Backstroke, finishing in 4th and 5th spots respectively.  Sinclair earned his second silver medal of the night in the male counterpart of the event, with a time of 57.83.

Carlene Creyke, Danielle Newton, and Ella Dalling competed in the final for the 200 IM, with Carlene earning the bronze medal in the event.  Ian Mattock won gold in the event, with a time of 2:11.21. 

Stefanie Schmidt nabbed the silver medal in the women’s 800 Freestyle in 9:11.88, with Rachael Newman coming in 4th place.  In her next event of the night, Newman won bronze in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:20.11.

The final individual event of the night, the men’s 1500 Freestyle, had 4 UVPCS swimmers competing, with Nicholas Sinclair winning the gold medal, Zac Parkes the silver, along with his CIS standard, Bobby Harling in 5th, and Ian Brown in 7th.

The medley relays brought 2 more medals for UVPCS, with the girls A team coming 2nd (the B team came 5th), and the boys A team coming 3rd (their B team also came 5th).
