14 Medals for UVPCS on the First Day of SFU Meet

UVic-PCS swimmers had a successful day at their second meet of the year, the SFU International Clan Cup.  Many swimmers competed in the finals for multiple events, and Uvic-PCS is leading the scoreboard over 8 other teams.

The first final of the night was the 400 FR, which saw 6 UVPCS swimmers and 2 medals.  Stefanie Schmidt earned the silver medal with a time of 4:21.28, while Rachael Newman nabbed 4th spot with 4:31.17, followed by Emily Gerson in 5th with a time of 5:32.95.  In the men's final, Nicholas Sinclair won gold touching in at 3:55.52, while Zac Parkes and Ian Mattock finished 4th and 6th respectively. 

Rachael Newman gave UVPCS their third medal of the night in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:04.48, a final which also saw Danielle Newton touching 6th with 1:06.64.

Ella Dalling and Allison Wood competed in the 50 Back finals, with Ella getting a bronze medal and achieving the CI time standard in the event.

Stefanie Schmidt got her second silver medal of the night in the 400 IM, with a time of 5:01.62.  UVic men swept spots 1-4 in the same event, earning 3 more medals for the team; Eric Stein, Ian Mattock, Zac Parkes, and Ian Brown landed the top 4 spots.  Bobby Harling also finished 6th in the event.

Another sweep took place in the women's 200 Backstroke, with Stefanie Schmidt taking gold with 2:13.11, followed by Ella Dalling and Allison Wood, both reaching CI time standards in the event, joining UVPCS swimmer Derek Doerksen, who did the same in the 200 Back last weekend.  Emily Gerson came 6th in the event.  Nicholas Sinclair won his second gold medal of the night, while Derek Doerksen finished 4th.

Zac Parkes won the 800 Freestyle with 8:33.53, while the women's 200 Freestyle relay got 3rd place, rounding out the UVic medal count to 14 on the first day of competition.
