2012 BC Summer Games Update

We had 22 athletes represent Vancouver Island for swimming in the 2012 BC Summer Games in Surrey. Of those athletes, fellow PCS teammates Anna Letkeman and Justin Howe were chosen to represent “Team 6.”

Day 1: Friday, July 20
It was a close day at the pool with Vancouver Island and Vancouver-Squamish neck and neck for first place. Team 6 concludes the preliminaries session with 13 finalists and 18 finals swims. We finish the day with 4 golds, 3 silvers, and 3 bronzes.

Day 2 – Saturday, July 21
Team 6 trails 17 points behind the Vancouver-Squamish, Zone 5 team at the end of Day 1. We will have some catching up to do with 17 finalists and 25 finals swims in store this afternoon. Anna went a pb in the 100 back and free blowing the competition away and earning her a spot in finals. A special congrats goes to Anna and Justin for showing how tough PCS swimmers really are: both had back to back finals in the 100 back and 100 free with only 1 heat to rest between swims.

Day 3 – Sunday, July 22
We conclude the meet with the medley and free relays, and distance swims. We are trailing behind Zone 5 by a hairline, but anticipate great swims today. Congrats to the girls A team for swimming their way to gold in both the medley and free relays, and the boys A team for their solid third place performance.

Vancouver Island wins the meet 25 points ahead of the Vancouver-Squamish, Zone 5 team. We conclude the meet with a whopping 11 golds, 5 silvers, and 10 bronzes. Amazing job to Justin for countless best times and finishing with 8 medals – the most medals earned by a Team 6 swimmer this meet.

Good luck at Age Groups, Justin!

And last, but not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNA!
