2014 Age Group Nationals

Day Three Summary

UVPCS climbs the team ranking strikes gold again.

Day four preliminaries were a bit soft for the team. It was a strong day on paper for the Victoria crew but the athletes had some challenges staying focused as the days lengthen. As result the team had a numbers of prelim swims that ended just out of the finals.

This evenings performances showed little of that. Once on the blocks our athletes showed their tough competitive nature.

Sophie Lorette(11) placed 6th with an improved performance from her heat swim in 2:36 for 200m Butterfly. Jordan Andrusak took the early lead against a strong field. She faded somewhat in the second half but moved up from 8th to seventh in 2:23. Lucas Tyler earned his first medal in 2:09 taking the bronze for 15 year old boys.

The 50m Free came up next. 12 year old Jessica Luo parked her thoughts at the door and screamed off the blocks cutting over 4% for her best taking fifth in 28.1. Molly Gowans seemed to be back to form tonight swimming fast enough to record her best time and a trek from 8th to 6th in 27.09. In the process she established a new senior and age group club record and a regional Record ( Adamson '06).

800m Free was a another very strong event for the Blue and Gold Sophie Lorette 6th in 12 and U girls (10:02). Eden Kormendy (13) took fifth in her best time(9:39). Molly Gowans set another club record as she earned gold in 14 year old girls(9:02). Jordan Andrusak(15) finished just out of the medals in fourth in 9:19.

In the team score the club moved up from last night into 8th position and held 3rd spot on the girls side just a scant few points behind 2nd place.
