2023 Winter Divisional Highlights

Congratulations to all 28 swimmers from PCS who competed at the 2023 Winter Divisional Championships in Vancouver, BC!

Our weekend started off Friday with Sofia Z. placing first in the 200 IM on the girls 11-12 side with a time of 2:42.82. Ewan R. took silver in the boy's 11-12 category with a time of 2:40.55. Simon DR. placed 4th in the 15&0 category with a best time of 2:14.40. Ewan R. was back on the podium again in 100m backstroke taking silver and going a best time of 1:14.33, followed by Eli H. placing 6th. 200m fly was up next with Nora D. placing 4th in the 13-14 category. On the boys side Ewan R. took his 3rd medal of the night and scored bronze in the 200m fly. Simon D.R placed 2nd in the 200m butterfly with a best time of 2:16.94. 50m breaststroke was up next where first time Divisional qualifiers Averie H. took off an impressive 3.18 seconds in the event during prelims & finals, managing to place 1st and qualify for 11-12 Provincials. On the boys side, Ethan Z. placed 2nd, followed by Hamish G. in 5th and Sohayb B. in 8th. In the 15&0 category, Matthew DG. placed 3rd overall and obtained his first provincial qualifying time. Following was the 400m freestyle where Sofia Z. placed 3rd overall in the 11-12 category followed by Adrina GC in 4th. The girl's & boy's 12&u 4x50m freestyle relays placed 2nd overall. 

Saturday brought great races again for PCS with Simon DR starting us off with a 3rd place and best time in the 15&0 200m freestyle (2:01.63). Following that was 50m fly where Adrina GC placed 6th and obtained a best time of 35.96. Matthew DG obtained a best time, dropping .5 off his original seed. Next up was 100m breaststroke where Ethan Z. placed 2nd just merely missing his provincial qualifying time. Matthew DG placed 4th in the 15&0 catgeroy dropping 3.5 seconds off his personal best. Noah Z. stepped up next placing 2nd in the boy's 50m freestyle, breaking 30 that day with a time of 29.95. Following the 50m fr was 200m backstroke, where Ewan shredded 4.5 seconds off his best time and placed 1st in the 11-12 category with a time of 2:36.98, almost 4 seconds under the provincial time. To finish off Saturday's individual events, Maelle Sanborn placed 2nd in the 11-12 category dropping 16 seconds off her best time. On the boy's side, Noah Z. placed 3rd swimming just over his personal best. In the 15&0 category, Simon D placed 3rd overall. 

To wrap up the competition, Tracy Z. placed 1st in the 13-14 200m breaststroke with a best time of 2:52.12. On the boy's side, Ethan Z. placed 3rd with a personal best of 3:07.51. Following was the 100m freestyle where Ewan R. got the gold with a best time of 1:04.14, dropping 5 seconds off his entry time. Simon DR placed 5th in the 15&0 category, followed by Matthew DG in 8th. Zoe L. moved up a spot in the 11-12 50m backstroke final tp place 7th overall. On the boy's side, Eli H. placed 3rd with a best time of 34.46. We finished off the evening with 100m butterfly where Ewan R. went for gold again smashing his previous best time and swimming a 1:12.02. In the 15&0 category, Simon DR placed 2nd a tenth over his personal best.
