AAA Provincial Championships Recap

The 2017 Swim BC Short Course Provincial Championships concluded last night with over 500 athletes competing for for four days at Commonwealth Place. PCS came a close 2nd! But all of the highlights came from the PCS bench. Far and away UVPCS was the loudest most supportive team on deck who stuck to their teammates right to the last event. Pacific Coast Swimming(PCS) won the girls title again making that 6 Championships in a row while the boys showed at lot of improvement from last summer pulling to within 150 points of boys top team, HYACK, from LMR. PCS came back from a 300 point deficit to come second by 57 points in the combined score to Island Swimming.

The real story was in the top quality level of swimming put on by the 49 PCS athletes. 11 athletes were involved in setting 6 Provincial Records, 15 Vancouver Island records(VIR) and over 20 club records. Only one other Prov mark went down over the weekend besides those set by the PCS side. Jessica Luo, Hana Edwards, Laura Rincon, Sophie Lorette, Grace Macdonald, Lily Chen, Michael Schmidt, Keir Ogilvie, Anthony Gutierrez and Brendan Fitzpatrick were all involved in the teams that broke the Provincial and Vancouver Island Relay marks. Jessica Luo added an individual Provincial Record on 50m Freestyle at 25.9. Her time also exceeded the UVPCS Open Club record.  Nolan Crisp, Keir Ogilvie and Michael Schmidt also broke individual Vancouver Island records. Schmidt’s 200m Breaststroke record marked 20 years since the last record was established. Ogilvie’s 100m Butterfly took down the VIR mark last set in 1993!

We want to thank all of the volunteers who helped make it such a success and all the teams who travelled to Victoria to compete.
