Add Athlete of the Week to Sinclair's list of conference honours

VICTORIA - On Monday, the Canada West announced that UVic Vikes swimmer Nick Sinclair has been awarded Male Athlete of the Week, in recognition of his outstanding performance at the conference championship.

Sinclair completed the awards hat trick at the Canada West swimming championships on the weekend. The Victoria rookie was named the conference's Athlete of the Meet, Rookie of the Year and All-Star after a six-medal performance in Lethbridge.

Sinclair became the first athlete in Canada West history to win Athlete of the Meet and Rookie of the Meet in the same year, and the first UVic male swimmer to win either award. Sinclair totaled four gold medals, winning the 400m individual medley, 200m fly, 200m back, 100m back, and picked up silver medals in the 50m back and 400 medley relay.

Sinclair’s time in the 100m back (55.24) and 200m back (1:59.54) both established new UVic school records.

In January, the 18-year old Oak Bay High School graduate represented the Canadian Junior National team at the Australian under-18s. Sinclair won the 200m backstroke at the meet.

Sinclair will be put forward as a finalist for the CIS' Athlete of the Week award, which will be announced on Wednesday of this week.
