BC Senior Open Summary

UVPCS had another hot weekend in Surrey at the BC Open. 

Anthony Gutierrez pounded out a 20 second PB over 1500m to make the Age group standard for the upcoming World Trials. He went under the standard by a 'crowd pleasing' 1 second. His time of 17:02 sliced just shy of 4 seconds off the club record set in 2005 by Craig Dagnall

Keir Ogilvie also qualified for Trials in 200m Butterfly setting a VIR regional record last set by Jesse Jacks in 1997. Ogilvie's time of 2:11.32 lopped over a second off the previous mark. He also broke the 100m Butterfly VIR record held by Jacks from the same year. Keir added a 3rd record over 50m cracking Ryan Howe's 2010 best in 27.22.

Michael Schmidt improved on his 100m Breastroke time and record in a winning time of 1:07.7 for the U16 boys estblishing a new mark for the VIR region. His 200(2:29) was just over his best and enough for second to Josh Kim of Langley.

Jessica Luo took top spot in 100m Freestyle in 58.4, settling for 3rd in 100 Butterfly(1:04) and 4th in 200m(2:22) in U15 girls.

Buzz Mallender crushed his PB in 100 Back pushing home hard to 58.41 for 3rd spot.

Jon McKay came over on the Sunday to swm 400m Free and had a strong race coming 2nd in 4:02.7

Artem Kuklev moved up 10 spots in 400m Freestyle chopping over 10 seconds of his best to finish 9th. 

Our women's 4x100 Freestyle relay(Luo, Ballantyne, Lawrance, Andrusak) claimed first in 4:00 while the men took 2nd in 3:47. In the 4x100Medley Relay the men were fastest team to the wall in 4:06. 

Now final preparations will be taking place to preapre the UVPCS team of 10 who will compete in front of the home crowd April 6-9. Be there!
