Campbell River Eliminator Invitational 2017

After a 3 hour drive up Island, the Pacific Coast Swimmers had a good first day in Campbell River. Arran Robertson (12) was the sole representative for the club –and all swimmers at the meet- in the boy’s 1500 freestyle. Known more for his breastroke than his distance freestyle, Robertson had a goal of being around 24:00. Just prior to the start of the race, CRKW swimmer Melayna Beaudin decided to jump in and as well. “I kept track until the 1000 meter mark”, Robertson said. The next event was 50 Freestyle where Mello Di came in 2nd in the 10&Under category with a best time of 39.40. Charlotte Alexander came in 4th in the girls 11/12 age group, which put her in the top six for the mixed 50 Free eliminator later in the session. 200IM followed, where Adelina Benn (10) came in 2nd, and Di coming in 3rd for the 10&Unders. Alexander showed that her freestyle skills shine for more than just sprints as she came in 2nd in a new best time of 3:04.63, dropping 6.5 seconds off her previous best time. Robertson was back in the pool, picking up 2nd in the 11/12 boys as well.

Next up was the 100 Breastroke; Adelina Benn finished 1st with a best time of 1:37.69, and in the 11-12 age group Roxanne Goody came 8th with a time of 2:00.43. Kieran Hawes’ first 50 fly following that event, where he finished 5th with a time of 1:07.33. We said goodbye to the sprints for a moment as the 400 freestyles rolled around, where Mello Di raced her first 400 freestyle she finished with a time of 7:10.11, coming 3rd in the 9-11 age group. Charlotte Alexander came 1st in the 11-12 age group with a time of 5:52.40, with Julia Hajash close behind in 3rd and Sophia Malachowshi in 4th.

In the 100 fly, Arran Robertson came 3rd with a best time of 1:42.67. After that was 100 backstroke where Madea Solberg finished 4th with a time of 1:28.09, and Meadow Alberts not far behind in 7th with 1:34.25. Emma Obee finished 8th with a best time of 1:34.36, despite her googles coming off at the start of the race. Nearing the end of the session was the, 400 I.M where we had one swimmer, Alberts, who finished 5th in 7:04.03. Lastly was the mixed 12 and under 50 freestyle eliminator, Charlotte Alexander was lucky to get in as an alternate, even though she got eliminated in the first round with a time of 32.01. That’s not the end, though! The meet goes again tomorrow, and so will the hard racing! Way to go so far, PCS, and good luck tomorrow!
