Canada West Day 1

16 UVic swimmers headed to Edmonton yesterday morning to take part in the 2012 Canada West University Championships, and with a few flight delays, arrived just in time for warm-ups. 

The distance events were up first: despite battling an illness this week, Zac Parkes was able to swim a strong back end in his 1500, placing 3^rd in his heat, only to be edged out of the bronze medal by a swimmer in a separate heat.    

In the 50 Backstroke, Ella Dalling just missed the bronze with 30.69, with Allison Wood close behind in 5^th place at 30.72. 

UVic rookie Stephanie Taekema competed in back-to-back events, earning two best times in the 50 Backstroke and 50 Breaststroke. 

Ian Brown competed for the men in the Breaststroke, finishing in 8^th place and shaving nearly a second off his best time.

The night wrapped up with 4x200 Freestyle relays, with both the UVic Men’s and Women’s teams finishing in 4^th place.
