Canada West Day 2

Day 2 of The 2012 Canada West Championships boasted several finals and a CIS qualification for our UVic swimmers. 

The first UVic swimmer of the evening was Siobhan Newell in the B final of the 400IM, where she took 1st place (9th overall), and qualified for the CIS standard, clocking in at 5:02.28.  Newell also competed in a second event in the 200 Freestyle, nabbing 4th in the B final with a time of 2:07.96.

On the Men’s side of the 400 IM, Ian Mattock and Eric Stein competed in the A final and finished 5th and 7th respectively. 

In the A final for the Women’s 200 Backstroke, Allison Wood knocked three seconds off her personal best time, touching in 5th at 2:17.13.  Ella Dalling and Emily Gerson raced in the same final, taking 7th and 8th spots.  Julia Schmidt improved on her strong swim from the morning, and won the B final in a time of 2:24.82. 

The 100 Breaststroke saw four UVic swimmers taking part in the finals: Stephanie Taekema continued her best time streak of the meet and took 8th spot in the A final, with Elizabeth Sissons coming 4th in the B, and Danielle Newton shortly behind her in 7thIan Brown won the B final for the Men with a seasonal best of 1:05.47.

 Once again, the night closed out with relays, this time the 4x100 Freestyle.  The Women’s team placed 4th again tonight, with the Men touching in 5th.
