Canada West Day 3

The 2012 Canada West University Championships wrapped up in Edmonton today.

The evening began with the 200 Fly, with five of our UVic swimming participating in the finals.  Julia Schmidt placed 3rd in the Women’s B final, with a time of 2:26.28.  In the Men’s A final, Ian Mattock placed 4th, with Bobby Harling coming in 6th with a best time of 2:10.26, while the B final saw Eric Stein and Tyler Smith finishing 1st and 2nd.

Three more swimmers competed in the 200 IM “B” finals, with Danielle Newton and Siobhan Newell having strong swims to take 2nd and 4th in their B final.  For the men, Ian Mattock competed in the B final, finishing 2nd with a time of 2:10.58.

Allison Wood and Ella Dalling continued to be strong competitors in the Backstroke events, with Wood coming 6th in the A final of the 100 Backstroke, and Dalling right behind her in 7thEmily Gerson was part of the B final, finishing 2nd in her heat with a time of 1:07.44. 

As she has all meet, Stephanie Taekema impressed in the 200 Breaststroke, rounding out her best times at the meet to 100%, as she finished 7th overall in 2:39.51.  Ian Brown dropped over two seconds off his morning swim to reach a new personal best as well, and conquered the Men’s B final, clocking in at 2:23.29. 

In the Men’s 400 Freestyle, Tyler Smith and Bobby Harling each competed in their second event of the night, finishing 7th and 8th in the B final, respectively.  Zac Parkes won the same final in a time of 4:02.74, which would have put him in 4th place overall. 

The relay tonight was the 4x100 Medley, with our UVic girls placing 4th, and the men in 5th.
