Jon McKay 7th and Top Canadian in Pan Am Games 10km Race after miscount

Jon McKay represented Canada at the 2019 Pan Pacific Games in Lima on Sunday in the 10km Open Water race!  Jon, coming off a great swim at World Champs, was swimming confidently moving into Lima.  Jon swam with the pack for just over half the race before making a move on the field and moving away from the pack.  Unfortunately Jon mis-counted at some point, and thought he was one lap ahead of where he was (out of 8 total laps).  This meant that once he realized his mistake, he had spent too much energy to finish as strong as he wanted to.  After being 48 seconds ahead of the field with only one lap to complete, Jon fell off and finished 7th overall, just behind the top 6.  Jon has had a great season, but in a sport where experience is of such high importance, every one of these experiences is invaluable to future success.  Great job Jon!
