Medals, Records at Canada Games

Competing for Team BC at the Canada Games in Prince Edward Island, UVPCS swimmers Nicholas Sinclair and Richard Weinberger and swimmer-triathlete Alison Hooper pulled out all the stops and posted a terrific end to the 2008-2009 season.

Richard Weinberger opened and closed the meet with Gold medal performances. He won 800 Freestyle on Monday, setting a new UVPCS record in the process. Then on Saturday Richard took the 10 km Open Water Gold, his second of the summer - he was SNC National Open Water Champion in Montreal in July.

In between Monday and Saturday, Nicholas Sinclair kept busy racking up medals and records. In individual races, Nick took Bronze in 100 Backstroke with a new BC 15-17 age group record; he topped that swim the following day with Gold and a National age group record in 200 Backstroke, and the day after that, he finished fourth in 50 Backstroke. Nick also featured on five relays: Team BC won 200 Medley Relay Gold and set a Senior National record with Nick swimming the backstroke leg (his 50m Back in this relay was also a UVPCS record). The 400 Medley Relay also won Gold; as well, Team BC took Bronze in the 200 Freestyle Relay and was top-8 in 400 & 800 Freestyle Relays.

And in triathlon competition, the first time this event was contested at the Canada Games, Alison Hooper won the inaugural individual Gold and was the swimmer on the winning triathlon relay team.
