More on Weinberger's Pan Am Gold

This weekend brought the second International win in a row for UVPCS swimmer Richard Weinberger, at the Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.  Weinberger earned his gold medal in the 10km with a time of 1:57:31.00, just edging out his American competitor, Arthur Frayler, by .03 of a second.

It was an impressive race for Richard, who had been overcoming a bout of sickness, and coming from behind to win the race at the finish is something Richard has struggled with in the past.  Richard overtook Frayler, one of the strongest finishers competing in Open Water swimming today, within the last 800m.

In an interview a couple of weeks ago, Weinberger said of the race: “I told Ron [Jacks] I want to be top 3, I want to be on the podium and hopefully compete with these guys because they're all great swimmers.”
