National Open Water Teamer David Creel Retires

VICTORIA - National Open Water Teamer David Creel was honored in front of his peers last night during the 2011 World Championships Trials in Victoria, BC.

David Creel of Dalhousie NB competed around the globe in Open Water event for over 10 years.

David boasts a long list of achievements. He first represented the Open Water National Team in 2002 at the World Open Water Championships in Sharm el Sheik, Egypt where he placed 13th in the 10k.

He also represented Canada at the 2003 World Aquatic Championships in Barcelona as well as the 2004 World Open Water Championships in Dubai, U.A.E, the 2006 World Open Water Championships in Naples, Italy, the 2007 World Aquatic Championships in Melbourne Australia and the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy.

In 2006, David competed in the 10km open water event at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships where he placed 8th overall. David had the unique opportunity to swim in front of all his Pacific Coast Swimming teammates in Victoria.

At the 2007 FINA Marathon Swimming World Cup in Roberval, QC, David placed 5th in the 10k.

Creel is also a very competitive pool swimmer. In 2005, he competed at the Pacific Coast Swim Meet and came away with 4 gold medal finishes.

At the 2002 World Cup, he swam the 10k open water event and finished in 8th place. David came in 5th place at the World Cup in 2004 and won the bronze medal at the U.S. Nationals in 2006.

David’s talent was discovered at a young age while partaking in swimming lessons.

Coached by Ron Jacks and Peter Vizsolyi at the University of Victoria, Creel was always motivated to swim at the highest of his abilities. Creel says that Ron Jacks is the most influential person in his life because he pushed him to be the best he can be.
