It's been a busy international week for UVPCS swimmers...
First off the blocks, Caileigh Filmer represented Canada at the North American Challenge Cup in La Mirada, California. Caileigh rose to the long course Challenge, bettering her entry times in four of six individual races and concluded the meet with three top-8 finishes in tough competition. Caileigh was also on three top-8 relay teams.
Then, in a warm-up to the Canada Games, Nicholas Sinclair and Richard Weinberger represented Team BC at the five-day long-course US Open Championships in Federal Way, Washington. Richard finished top-16 in both 800 & 1500 Freestyle, and set a new UVPCS Senior record in 800 Freestyle. Nick in his turn finished 24th overall in 200 Backstroke, and set a new UVPCS 15-17 record in 200 Freestyle, as the lead-off swimmer in the 800 Freestyle Relay.
Meanwhile, MacKenzie Downing has been in Britain representing Canada, first at the Tri-Nations LC Cup and most recently at the British SC Grand Prix. MacKenzie closed the Grand Prix with fourth and fifth placings in 200 & 100 Butterfly, respectively; she also had evening swims in 50 Butterfly and 200 Freestyle, finishing twelfth and fourteenth overall. In the process, MacKenzie set two UVPCS Senior records in 200 Butterfly and 200 Freestyle.
Congratulations to Caileigh, MacKenzie, Nick, Richard and their coaches Rod Barratt, Ron Jacks and Peter Vizsolyi!
