Provincial Long Course & Open Water Championships

Thanks to everybody who helped at these Long Course and Open Water Provincial Championships - as always, to all our parents, friends, sponsors, supporters and swimmers and coaches who worked so hard before, during and after the event (and between sessions, and &tc...) to make this happen from start to finish; thanks also to Barracudas, Chena, Glacier Bears, Island, Kokanee, Liquid Lightning, Ravensong and Sharks parents, as well as master officials from Comox, Kelowna and Williams Lake, for their time spent pitching in on the pool deck and the lake dock. We had a terrific time!!

Congratulations to all on fast swimming, personal bests and medals! In the pool, our swimmers and coaches placed 24 people in the medals through top-8, with ten relays in the same range, to finish fifth in the province. In the lake, UVPCS took six medals with nine top-8 swims. Well done, UVPCS!

Our LC top finishers included:
Gold medalists - Salin Bol, Caileigh Filmer, Lauren McMillan, Zac Parkes & Aidan Thirkell
Silver medalists - Ryan Clouston, Remy Mock & Stefanie Schmidt
Bronze medalists - Katelyn Hayward, Ryan Howe, Ian Mattock, Rosie Moulton & Rachael Newman
Top-8 - Sophia Borchers, Hanna Carter, Emily Ding, Cody Flegel, Evan Letkeman, Victoria Mock, Akila Sato-Gaudreau, Julia Schmidt, Jade Simpas, David Vizsolyi & Allison Wood

Relay medalists were:

Caileigh Filmer, Abby Irving, Victoria Mock, Lauren McMillan (Bronze, 12 & under 800 Freestyle Relay)
Salin Bol, Katelyn Hayward, Stefanie Schmidt, Sophia Borchers (Bronze, 14 & under 800 Freestyle Relay)

The Open Water event at Elk Lake featured three distances: 1.5, 3 km and 5 km for age groups 12 & under, 14 & under and Open, respectively. UVPCS dominated, winning four of six possible Gold medals. Our medalists were:
Gold - Caileigh Filmer, Stefanie Schmidt, Evan Letkeman & Rachael Newman
Silver - Lauren McMillan & Ryan Howe
Top-8 performances also featured Victoria Mock, Katelyn Hayward & Michael de Clare.

Swimmers also achieved new qualifying standards at these Championships, and congratulations to Hanna Carter and Rosie Moulton for their new Age Group National qualifications.
