Second day at Summer Provincials

Friday at the UBC aquatic centre was a sea of best times, qualifiers and podium swims for our Uvic-Pacific Coast Swimming team. Our night started off with Mila Chernenkoff sneaking in to the girl's 100m freestyle final. Mila placed 9th overall, with a 1.3 second time improvement from her entry time. The boys followed next, with Kieran Feenstra moving up from 11th to finish 5th in finals. Feenstra handly broke 58 seconds for the first time in his swim career for a time of 57.36. In the next age group up, Alonso placed 6th in his age group just over his best. Following the freestyle was our 200m breaststrokers. Sophie Wood went for the gold twice, placing 1st in the Mutli-Class para 200m IM, dropping 1.8 seconds off her personal best and dropping two and a half seconds off her 100m bareaststroke. Feenstra was back on the blocks, dropping a siginificant 3.4 seconds off his best time to qualify for Junior Nationals in the event. Jasper took it away next in the 15-16 boys breaststroke, going a best time at the 50m mark and the 100m mark to finish .3 under his previous personal best. Lastly, we had Arran Robertston wrap up our breaststrokers who took silver in the event right on his best time. 400m freestyles were on it afterwards - Chernenkoff was back on the blocks! After a significant 11 second drop off her best in the morning, Chernenkoff shaved off another 2 seconds to place 5th. Up the next age group was Jessica Hier who placed 8th overall. After being right on her best this morning, she dropped 2 seconds for a personal best. Alex Camaraire came 5th on the boy's side, qualifying for his first Junior National standard and moving up from 10th to 5th with a 7 second best time. 400m IM followed the freestyle, with Van Maren back up on the blocks for another 2 second best time to place 6th overall. Finishing up our individual events was 50m backstroke - where Bridget Rupert lead us off. After moving up from 13th to 8th in prelims, she snuck up another spot to finish 7th overall, breaking 32 seconds. Rubin Lee lead off the boy's 13-14 category. In a tight race for 1st, Lee placed 4th with a .33 best time (30.23). Bryce Baker followed suit in the 17&over category, also placing 4th and dropping a tenth off his personal best.

To finish the night off, our relays took it away in some tight races. Friday night was the 4x50m medley relays, and our 13-14 boys A team (R. Lee, K. Feenstra, S. Nobozniak, & A. Camaraire) placed 2nd just three hundreths away from gold. The 15-17 boys team (A. Guterriez, A. Robertson, S. de Rosnay, & A. Tchaouchev) placed 4th in a close race for the podium.

We are officially halfway and going for a strong finish, so watch out for us on our social media and the livetsream. GO BOLTS!!
