Session 1 of 2017 Nanaimo SC Meet

PCS brought the heat to Nanaimo on the first day of competition with 91 swimmers in the meet. The team travelled up early Saturday morning to get into a busy warm-up and the prelims starting at 9:00 a.m. The last month and a half of hard training really showed with the swimmers. The session started of with a bang with 100m Freestyle as the first event. In the 10&Under, Bridget Rupert was the top performer at the meet with a 1:11.12, dropping 7.5 seconds and besting the top boy by 5 seconds. In the 11/12 age group, Naeva Scott-Bouris and Griffin placed 3rd with 1:05.97 and 1:04.23.

The next event was the mixed 50m Butterfly, with tons of best times and great placing’s starting off with another 10 & Under win from Kate Marcovitz and Ethan Woo in 42.92 and 44.61. Second for the boys was Isaac Liu in a time of 44.79. Luke Poulin taking in his first meet outside of Victoria placed 3rd in the 11/12 age group in a time of 41.91. In the 15&Over category Emma Murdock was 1st in 30.06 winning along side Lucas Tyler in 25.26. Second was Daniel Greer (1st year at UVic) in 26.09.

Next up was the 100 Back with Ethan Woo and Bridget placing 3rd in 10&Under in 1:38.66 and 1:24.95. In the 11/12 age group, PCS dominated another event winning both boys and girls Naeva in 1:14.27 and Nolan Crisp in 1:11.83 just off his best time. Griffin came in 3rd in 1:13.50. In 13/14 100 Back, Hana Edwards won in 1:05.46. In the 15&Over the men provided us with a sweep: Lucas was 58.90 for first, Ethan Phillips was 2nd in 59.65, and Cale was 3rd in 1:00.22. The girls had Emma 3rd in 1:11.52.

200 Breaststroke was next, Annika Rupert matched her sister's win earlier with a 3:28.36. In the 11/12 age group, Atanas Tchaouchev came in 2nd in 3:09.72, Misato Hiraoka was also 2nd in 3:04.42. In the 13/14 age group, PCS had it`s 2nd sweep of the night with Hana, Kali Lancaster, and Sydney Meldrum finishing in 2:49.43, 2:59.84, and 3:00.30.

The 3rd sweep of the a.m. session was in the 15&Over 200 Breast where Thomas Van Maren, Arthur Firmino, and Christian Arzberger finished in 2:29.72, 2:32.53, and 2:38.16 dropping 10 seconds combined. Andrea Farmer placed 1st on the girl’s side in 2:44.93. Last event of the a.m. was the 200 IM. Bridget was 1st in 2:58.32 for 10&Unders. In the 11/12 age group we netted two good 3rd place swims: Maia Denis took off 13 seconds and Griffin took off over 5 seconds in his swim.
