SNC Swimwear Rule & Procedures Update

Swim-Natation Canada

The Technical Swimming Committee of SNC has developed two documents to assist the swimming community in understanding how we will handle the new swimwear rules (SNC GR-5). The first document attends to the application of GR-5 at provincial level competitions while the second document deals with specific procedures that will be in place for the 2009 World Aquatic Championship Trials in Montreal.

For provincial sections, please note that we wish this issue to be self-policed in the spirit of fair-play. We are asking officials to take an "arms-length" approach to the rules and assist swimmers, coaches and families from an educational posture as much as possible. However, should an individual blatantly disregard the rules we expect the enforcement of GR-5.

At Trials, we'll be instituting a "sign-off" procedure for swimmers during the check-in process for "A" finals only. Top 8 swimmers will be required to know their suit manufacturer and suit model. For the "B" final and preliminary sessions we ask coaches and swimmers to support and self-police the new rule in a spirit of fairplay and professionalism. Please note that we will be requesting all "A" finalists to report to the Clerk of the Course 20 minutes prior to their event.
