Vancouver Island Short Course Championships 2009

Congratulations to all our UVPCS swimmers and coaches on their fine performances in Comox at the Vancouver Island Region (VIR) Short Course Championships!! Highlights included lots of best times, top-8 and medal finishes and a new club record.

Our Gold medalists were Emily Ding, Ryan Howe, Jacob McKee, Lauren McMillan, Rachael Newman, Stefanie Schmidt. Aidan Thirkell, Grace Thomas and Tabitha Zammit; Silver and Bronze medalists included Sophia Borchers, Hanna Carter, Lauren Crisp, Caileigh Filmer, Alison Hooper, Ian Mattock, Rosie Moulton, Austin Nolt, Stephen Olmos, Zac Parkes and John Willcox.

Additional top-8 finalists were Cole Barratt, Salin Bol, Emma Carter, Michael de Clare, Patricia Horwood, Alexandra Kierstead, Anna Letkeman, Evan Letkeman, Rebecca MacKenzie, Heather McMillan, Victoria Mock, Julia Schmidt, Jade Simpas, Tyler Smith, Riley Tesch and Brenden Ward.

Amongst our multi-medalists, Grace Thomas (10) and Ryan Howe (12) both came home with an amazing eight medals. Wow! Grace entered eight races and finished top-3 in all of them (2 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze); Ryan won eight medals (6 Gold, 2 Silver) from nine races entered.

As well, congratulations to the following swimmers and their coaches for achieving new time standards:
Hanna Carter - 12 Year Age Group Nationals
Lauren McMillan - 13 Year Age Group Nationals
Alexandra Kierstead – 12 years Provincial AAA
Stephen Olmos - 12 years Provincial AAA

And, last but not least, congratulations to Ryan Howe for setting a new club record in the 200 Individual Medley (11-12).
