Weinberger Wins 5km, Parkes Takes Bronze

Original Story from Swimming Canada.

VICTORIA – Pan Pacific Championships bronze medallist in the 10km open water event, Richard Weinberger and sixteen year old Sherry Liu of New Westminster, B.C won the 5km pool championships today at the Saanich Commonwealth Pool in Victoria, BC.

According to Swimming Canada National Coach, Pierre Lafontaine, the 5km pool event was a great opportunity for Canadian distance swimmers to have a chance to gauge their preparation for the Open Water event selection trials for the 2011 World Championships Team in Fort Meyers on June 11th.

At the World Trials, swimmers will have the opportunity for selection in the 10km and 25km open water.

Today’s top 5 finishers will receive a bursary to help fund travels to Fort Meyers for the Shanghai Worlds open water event selection trials.
