2014 Mel Zajac Jr. International!

More Provincial Records Fall!

The competition has been a tough one with perhaps just 10-15% or the competitors posting personal bests. In spite of the sluggish pace of the meet UVPCS has driven in a few homers.

Day One
Molly Gowans snuck into the top 8 finishers with a negative split 9:06.
Jon McKay finished just out of the medals with a 4th place.

Day Two
200 BK
Gowans was at it again establishing a PB in the heats and was a little off at night to finish 16th.
Evan Letkeman procured a best in 2:10.1 for 10th on the men’s side.

200 FR
Gowans was up for her second race of the night to finish 16th again just off her best time.

400IM
Jordan Andrusak came up big to move up to 11th place in 5:06.

4x100 Free Relay
Our 13-14 girls stood up well against senior competition swimming to 12th spot and a new Provincial Record slicing 2.8 off the existing record. The record was set by another group of PCS girls back in 2005 - quite a succession!

Day Three
The first highlight of the day came at the end of preliminaries in the 4x200 Free Relay with another provincial record for the 13-14 girls. The team of Gowans, Ballantyne, Andrusak and Crisp chopped 8 seconds off the record missing the National Age Group record by .6 seconds.

Finals began our PCS with the 50 back where Lauren Crisp moved up to finish in 21st.

Next up was 400FR where Molly Gowans slipped into the A-final and finished 8th - great experience for the 14 year old.

200 IM followed for Jordan Andrusak. After a bit of a cruise in the prelims she got her race plan together for the night swim coming 19th in overall in 2:25.

The evening continued with 50 FR - Gowans 23rd.

The final event was 200BR with Andrusak putting a great effort closing to 14th spot in 2:42.
