Three more trips up the stairs for PCS

The UVPCS crew took three more trips to the podium on the final day of competition at UBC. Jon McKay lead the way with two bronze finishes in 200m Butterfly(2:05) and 1500m Freestyle(15:55).  Molly Gowans earned silver for her 800m Freestyle (8:50) in a personal best. The team finished 6th of 49 scoring teams and was top Victoria team.

McKay, Mock, Gowans on podium at Mel Zajac

Day 1and 2 Report: UBC

Molly Gowans, Jon McKay and Vicky Mock have all made trips to the podium so far at UBC's Mel Zajac Jr Invitational. Gowans took top spot tonight over 400m in Freestyle against stiff competition(4:18) and had a silver in 200Fr(2:04) yesterday as well as a top 8 finish in 200Back. Jon McKay, showed why he is on the FISU Games team this summer swimming to 3rd in 800m(8:18), and 5th in 400m(4:02) tonight. Victoria Mock also claimed a medal in the 1500 in 3rd(17:18).

Two-Time Olympian Highlights Canada’s Open Water Roster

OTTAWA (CIS) - Canadian Interuniversity Sport, in conjunction with Swimming Canada, announced Tuesday Canada's open water swimming roster for the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea (July 3-14).

Hyack Day 3

It was an exciting final day at the Hyack Youth Cup with many more podium finishes and club records being broken. Michael Schmidt knocked off five tenths from the 11-12 boys 100 Breast VIR record, set in 1989 with a new time of 1:14.44. In a huge best time, Anthony Gutierrez beat former Vike swimmer Craig Dagnall's 400 Free club record (4:49.02, 2003) in a new time of 4:45.92.

Hyack Day 2

The 4x50 Freestyle relay of Anthony Gutierrez, Darisus Morrison, Keir Ogilvie, and Michael Schmidt broke their previous record from last summer by eight seconds, with a new time of 1:58.68. Anthony would go on to shave off 8 one hundreths of a second off of the 12&U 100 Free Club Record set in 2003 in a new time of 1:02.50. Keir broke one of the oldest PCS club records in the 12&U 200 Fly, beating former Vikes swimmer David Vizsolyi's 2:35.41 set in 2002 in a new time of 2:34.06 and finishing in second place.

Hyack Day 1

It was a fast day one at the Hyack Youth Cup, with some tough competition from Albertan and American teams but the small PCS squad is sitting in 5th.  The 4x50 Medley Relay team of Darius Morrison, Michael Schmidt, Keir Ogilvie, and Anthony Gutierrez broke the long standing VIR record from 1990 by over a second, with a new time of 2:10.18.  Congratulations boys!

Boys Finish First, PCS Takes Second Place at the 10&U Championship in Comox

Twenty-two 10&U swimmers competed over the weekend at the First Annual 10&U Championship in Comox. They swam hard over three sessions and earned many top finishes, standards and best times.

The swimmers also appreciated their moms who sacrificed a day at the spa to hang-out pool side with the team!

Former Vike Edgson Inducted into Canadian Sports Hall of Fame

Former Vike and Paralympic swimmer Michael Edgson has been announced as a member of the 2015 class of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, held in Calgary, AB. Edgson joined 10 others in this year's induction that included speed skater Susan Auch, ice hockey's Paul Coffey, freestyle skier Jennifer Heil and cyclist Lori-Ann Muenzer. The class of 2015 will be inducted on October 21, 2015.

Wavemaker Report

Well, we all had a great time in our beachy wear at the 2015 Wavemaker Meet.

Ninety-eight UVPCS swimmers were out there making waves and swimming fast long course early in the Long Course season.

Some of the highlights were:
Jemma Stevens came up big with 4 new AAA qualifying times;
Nolan Crisp made his first AAA time in the 50 FL in 41.17s and is one of Pacific Coast Swimming`s first 8 year olds to do so!! Congrats Nolan following in his sisters footsteps!

Coaching 101 Course Offered May 8-10th

There is a Coaching 101 course being offered at Uvic on the weekend of May 08, 09, 10. The course is the first step to becoming a certified coach and is only offered about twice a year.  For further details, look for more information at:
