30 swimmers from UVPCS traveled up to Campbell River to swim in the Annual Eliminator swim meet.
Highlights from the meet included:
- Dominic Huang made his third AAA in the 200 BK with a time of 3:00.55, (saving his parents a big trip to Penticton), and Asia Trudel made a AAA in the 200 FL with a time of 3:07.29.
- Jessie Ogden from UVIC also came up on Sunday and came to the meet to try to make her CIS qualifying time in the 800 FR swimming a best time of 9:11.40 edging closer to the standard.
- Hana Edwards made an attempt to break the national age group 200 BK record (2:17.96) missing it by 1.8 seconds.
- New VIR qualifiers are: Charlotte Alexander in 50 FR and Lucy Hallett in 50 FR .
- Competing in the eliminator event (50 FR where the slowest swimmer gets eliminated each round):
- Rachael Mebs 32.91, 32.90, 33.20, 33.6;
- Kathryn Lee 32.07, 33.10;
- Baylee Munro 25.77, 25.59, 28.08, 27.57, 25.99; and,
- Asia Trudel 30.07, 31.48, 31.66, 31.77, 30.67, 29.60.
- Sunday’s special event was a mystery 200 IM, (where swimmers choose their stroke order out of a hat):
- Rachael Mebs 3:06 BR, FL, BK, FR; and,
- Griffin Arnatt 3:14 BR, FR, FL, BK.
- A few swimmers competed in new events for the first time:
- 200 IM: Bridget Rupert, Annika Rupert, Atanas Tchaouchev, Sebastien Hon, William Laing, Connor Delaney and Charlotte Alexander;
- 400 FR: Emma Attwell;
- 400 IM: Jasmine Yu and Kaleb Lee;
- 800 FR: Mary MacDonald; and,
- 200 FL: Mary MacDonald and Asia Trudel.
- It was Miyu Yamashita’s first swim meet in Canada.
Overall it was a great annual event. Thanks to all those who traveled up!
