AAA's Day 2 Recap - Bolts build on lead during day 2
Pacific Coast Swimming continued to build momentum on day two of the Swim BC AAA Long Course Provincial Championships, increasing their team point lead by one hundred points. After two days of racing, the Bolts have built up a lead of two-hundred and fifty points over the Hyack Swim Club from New Westminster. Pacific Coast Swimming General Manager Mark Lancaster, commented on the resiliency of the team in the face of adversity. “I thought the swimmers did a great job of holding their own tonight," said Lancaster. "We had some tough disqualifications that could have sidetracked us, but we carried on with some good swimming to finish the night strong." Director of Athlete Development Rod Barratt added, “the team had some big performances on the night, and a couple of errors, but that is sport. The swimmers are looking forward to heading into the next three days battling for each and every point up for grabs.”
In the Girls 12-13 200 Breast, Hana Edwards swam to a silver medal in a time of 2:44.68. Teammate Laura Rincon touched the wall in 6th place with her time of 2:57.13. Jordan Andrusak got her busy night of racing started with a bronze medal performance in the Girls 16 & Over 200 Breast in a time of 2:38.60.
Michael Schmidt stole the show with his gold medal performance in the Boys 12-13 200 Breast in a time of 2:31.39. Brendan Fitzpatrick took home the silver with his final time of 2:37.02, while Dylan Kormendy touched in 6th place in 2:46.50.
In the Girls 12-13 100 Free, Sophie Lorette also finished in 6th place with her time of 1:02.21, while Rachel Sawchuk placed 8th in the Girls 16 & Over 100 Free in a time of 59.22. In the Girls 14-15 100 Free, Jessica Luo surged forward at the end of the race to snatch gold in a personal best time of 58.35. Keir Ogilvie and Anthony Gutierrez placed 4th and 5th respectively, with their times of 59.22 and 59.33 in the Boys 12-13 100 Free.
The Girls 16 & Over 200 IM saw Jordan Andrusak capture gold in a time of 2:21.61. Andrusak turned at the one-hundred and fifty metre wall in second place, but stormed home in the last fifty metres to win the event by two seconds. Teammate Sophie Tarrant touched in 4th place in a time of 2:25.14. Tarrant showed resiliency on the night, coming back to swim an impressive 200 IM after being disqualified in the Girls 16 & 200 Breast earlier in the evening. In the Girls 12-13 200 IM, Hana Edwards placed 4th with her time of 2:31.73.
The Bolts filled the Boys 12-13 400 IM ‘A’ final, with five of the top six swimmers representing Pacific Coast Swimming. Leading the way was Michael Schmidt with his time of 5:01.17. Close behind were teammates Keir Ogilvie and Tom Chapman, finishing 3rd and 4th with times of 5:07.52 and 5:07.99 respectively. Brendan Fitzpatrick and Anthony Gutierrez swam to 5th and sixth place finishes to round out the Pacific Coast Swimming contingent in the final. Jon McKay took home a silver medal in the Boys 16 & Over 400 IM with his overall time of 4:40.17.
In the Girls 12 & Under 200 Free Relay, the team of Lily Chen, Anastasia Trudel, Trinity Aragon-Scriven, and Jemma Stevens swam to a silver medal with their time of 1:59.40. Close behind were teammates Sydney Meldrum, Kali Lancaster, Teagan Hunt, and Maia Denis, who touched the wall in 6th place with their time of 2:06.23. In the Boys 12 & Under 200 Free Relay, the team of Nathan Chow, Taiki Hiraoka, Nolan Crisp, and Griffin Arnatt earned themselves a silver medal with their final time of 2:02.89.
The Girls 14 & Under 200 Free Relay, Grace MacDonald, Sophie Lorette, Georgia Ballantyne, and Jessica Luo placed 5th, finishing with an overall time of 1:53.98. The team of Michael Schmidt, Anthony Gutierrez, Keir Ogilvie, and Artem Kuklev touched the wall in 1:47.58, earning them a silver medal in the Boys 14 & Under 200 Free Relay.
Allison Hampton, Rachel Sawchuk, Allison Ballantyne, and Kelsey Andrusak took home bronze in a time of 1:50.15 of the Girls Open 200 Free Relay to cap off the night for the Bolts.
