AAA's Day 3 Recap

Pacific Coast Swimming closed out day three of competition at Saanich Commonwealth Place by opening up a slight lead on Hyack in the overall team point scores.  With multiple club and Vancouver Island Regional records on the day, the Bolts continued to push the pace as they vie for their fourth straight AAA Championship title.

In the Girls 12-13 100 Free, Jessica Luo set a new club record on her way to capturing gold in 57.24.  The time was two tenths of a second under the record formerly held by Molly Gowans.  Not to be out done by Luo, Gowans put together an impressive 100 Free in the Girls 16-18 category as she touched the wall in a new Vancouver Island Regional record and Pacific Coast Swimming club record.  Her time of 55.65 is the fastest time swum by a 16 year old in Canada this year.

Michael Schmidt placed 4th in a time of 57.98 in the Boys 12-13 100 Free, with teammate Anthony Gutierrez close behind in 7th place.  The Boys 16-18 100 Free had Mathew Fuller swimming a best time of 51.47 to earn himself a 4th place, while Cale Murdock came 6th in a time of 52.35.

Hana Edwards swam to a silver medal performance in the Girls 12-13 200 Back in a race that saw the top three finishers within three tenths of a second of each other.  In the Girls 14-15 200 Back, Hannah Lorette swam a best time of 2:18. 95 to earn valuable points for PCS and a 4th place finish.  Lauren Crisp found herself on the podium for the second time in backstroke events on the weekend, as she blew away the field in the Girls 16-18 200 Back.  Her time of 2:11.08 was over two seconds ahead of her competition, and is the second fastest 200 Backstroke swam by a 16 year old in Canada this year.

Swimming to her second medal of the evening, Hana Edwards placed 3rd in the Girls 12-13 100 Breast in a time of 1:16.76.  Laura Rincon joined her in the finals, and touched the wall in 7th position in a time of 1:20.39.  In the Boys 12-13 100 Breast, Pacific Coast Swimming went one-two, as Michael Schmidt and Brendan Fitzpatrick swam away from the field.  Schmidt’s time of 1:08.04 shattered the old club record and eclipsed the former Vancouver Island Regional record of 1:08.33 that had stood since 1997.  Earlier in the weekend, Schmidt set a new Vancouver Island Regional record in the 50 Breast with his 30.98 clocking.  A time that was one and a half seconds under the previous record that had stood since 1989.

In the Girls 12-13 400 IM, Sophie Lorette continued her weekend roll with another personal best, and a 4th place finish in a time of 5:12.87.  Erin Lawrance and Jordan Andrusak swam to 3rd and 7th place performances, respectively, in the Girls 16-18 400 IM.  With a quick turnaround, Schmidt claimed another medal with his 3rd place swim of 5:01.77 in the Boys 12-13 400 IM.

On the relay side of things, the Bolts continued to display their depth and dominance, as the 12 & Under team of Lily Chen, Trinity Aragon-Scriven, Kathryn Lee and Anastasia Trudel captured a silver medal in the 200 Medley.  The PCS Boys 12 & Under team of Nathan Chow, Brendan Fitzpatrick, Dylan Kormendy, Taiki Hiraoka set a new club record of 2:10.73 on their way to a 2nd place.

Hannah Lorette, Hana Edwards, Jessica Luo and Kelsey Andrusak swam to a gold medal in the Girls 13-14 200 Medley Relay, while the team of Sophie Lorette, Laura Rincon, Kealey Scott and Grace MacDonald picked up huge points for the Bolts with their 6th place finish.   The Pacific Coast Swimming relay team of Miyu Dobasho, Michael Schmidt, Keir Ogilvie and Artem Kuklev captured gold with a time of 1:53.62.

In the Girls 15-18 200 Medley Relay, Lauren Crisp, Jordan Andrusak, Allison Ballantyne and Molly Gowans touched the wall in 4th, with teammates Emma Murdock, Kara Wilson, Erin Lawrance and Rachel Sawchuk placing 6th

After three days of competition, Pacific Coast Swimming has opened up a lead of one hundred and twenty points over Hyack Swim Club, with one day left at the BC AAA Short Course Championships.  With all relay events now in the books, the team title will come down to individual races on Sunday of competition.  Day four events include 50 free, 200 breast, 200 free and 100 fly.
