AAA's Day 5 Recap - Bolts capture 5th straight AAA Provincial Championship

Pacific Coast Swimming successfully defended their title as the top swim club in British Columbia on Sunday night, with the last day of racing came to a close at the AAA Long Course Provincial Championships.   The Bolts finished strong, building on the lead they had put together over the first four days of competition, to finish more than three hundred points ahead of the next second place Hyack Swimming.  The title now brings the Bolts’ streak to five AAA championships in a row.

“The whole team banded together to stand up, raise their hands and cheer on every finalist tonight to show their support for the team,” said Mark Lancaster, General Manager of Pacific Coast Swimming.  “The podium finishes by the group were stellar, but the level of support for each swimmer regardless of placing shown by the team, exemplified why PCS is such a great organization to be a part of.”

The night started out with both Sophie Lorette and Jessica Luo capturing silver medals in the 100 fly.  Lorette touched the wall in 1:06.02 in the Girls 12-13 category, while Luo finished in a time of 1:03.63 in the Girls 14-15 race. 

Erin Lawrance led the way in the Girls 16 & Over 100 Fly with her 7^th place finish in a time of 1:05.66.  Jordan Andrusak, Allison Ballantyne, Emma Murdock, and Kennedy Aragon-Scriven picked up valuable points behind Lawrance, with their 9^th, 10^th, 14^th, and 15^th place finishes respectively. 

Keir Ogilvie got to the wall first in the Boys 12-13 100 Fly, touching in a time of 1:02.36.  With the win, Ogilvie completed the sweep of the three butterfly events in the 12-13 year old category on the weekend.  In the Boys 11 & Under 100 Fly, Nolan Crisp touched the wall in 8^th place with his 1:20.86 clocking.  Although Crisp was the youngest competitor in all his races throughout the weekend, he managed to make finals each day of the meet.  

Lauren Crisp claimed gold in the Girls 16 & Over 100 Back with her overall time of 1:04.34.  Crisp is currently ranked 3^rd in Canada for sixteen year olds, and will represent the Junior National team at the Junior Pan Pac Championships in Hawaii later this summer.  In the Girls 12-13 100 Back, Hana Edwards placed 4^th in a time of 1:07.91, while Lily Chen placed 7^th in a time of 1:10.98. 

In the Boys 11 & Under 100 Back, Nolan Crisp placed 5^th touching the wall in 1:17.58, and teammate Nathan Chow placed 7^th in a time of 1:20.20.  Brendan Fitzpatrick placed 4^th in the Boys 12-13 100 Back in a time of 1:07.64, while Tom Chapman and Dylan Kormendy placed 8^th and 14^th respectively. 

Sophie Lorette capped off her great weekend with another gold medal in the Girls 12-13 400 Free.  Lorette touched the wall five seconds ahead of her competition in a time of 4:32.62.  In the Girls 14-15 400 Free Erin Jennings, Kelsey Andrusak, and Jessica Luo placed 7^th, 9^th, and 11^th respectively. 

Pacific Coast Swimming had six swimmers in finals in the Girls 16 & Over 400 Free finals on Sunday night.  Erin Lawrance led the way with a bronze medal performance in a time of 4:26.86.  Haley Bennett and Jordan Andrusak were close behind, placing 5^th and 6^th respectively.  Picking up valuable points for the team were Lauren Crisp in 10^th, Rachel Sawchuk in 12^th, and Anna Letkeman in 16^th. 

In the Boys 12-13 200 Free, five Bolts earned second swims on the day.  None had a bigger race than Anthony Gutierrez, who took gold in the event in a time of 2:03.64.  Touching behind Gutierrez was Michael Schmidt in a personal best of 2:07.78 to place 5^th.  Keir Ogilvie, Dylan Kormendy, and Tom Chapman rounded out the Pacific Coast Swimming field with 9^th, 12^th, and 13^th place finishes respectively. 

Cale Murdock had one of the swims of the meet, taking the gold medal in the final individual event of the day, in the Boys 16 & Over 200 Free.  His time of 1:53.43 eclipsed his previous personal best that he had set at the Canadian Olympic Trials in April. 

In the Girls 12 & under 200 Medley Relay, the team of Lily Chen, Kali Lancaster, Anastasia Trudel, and Jemma Stevens took gold in a time of 2:12.42.  Close behind were teammates Sydney Meldrum, Jasmine Yu, Teagan Hunt, and Trinity Aragon-Scriven, who also found the podium with their third place finish in 2:20.11.  Nolan Crisp, Nathan Chow, Bill Dongfang, and Taiki Hiraoka placed 5^th in the Boys 12 & Under 200 Medley Relay. 

In the Girls 14 & Under 200 Medley Relay, Hana Edwards, Laura Rincon, Jessica Luo, and Grace MacDonald touched the wall in a time of 2:04.46 to claim the gold.  On the boy’s side, Tom Chapman, Brendan Fitzpatrick, Dylan Kormendy, and Anthony Gutierrez placed 6^th in a time of 2:03.70. 

The Girls Open 200 Medley Relay had Bolts’ teams placing 2^nd and 6^th.  The team of Lauren Crisp, Sophie Tarrant, Allison Ballaynte, and Rachel Sawchuk touched in a time of 2:01.04 for the silver medal, while Hannah Lorette, Jordan Andrusak, Emma Murdock, and Kelsey Andrusak finished with an overall time of 2:04.60. 

Pacific Coast Swimming now turns their focus to Canadian Age Group Championships, taking place at the Talisman Centre in downtown Calgary, from July 27^th through to July 31^st.
