AA's Day 1 Recap

After a long day of travel to Penticton, PCS swimmers woke up ready to race hard at Swim BC AA Provincial Championships yesterday. We had lots of best times in morning swims and team members cheered on Taiki Hiraoka to our team's first medal of the meet in the 1500 FR, (12-13 Boys) a bronze, in 20:12.97. Right after that Mackenzie Hepner knocked over 27 seconds off her previous 800 FR best to earn her first AAA time and a 6th place finish (12-13 Girls). Naeva Scott-Bouris also achieved her first AAA time in the 100 BK (11&U Girls).

At the first night of finals Taiki placed 7th in the 200 IM (12-13 Boys). In the 50 FR Mackenzie finished 12th (12-13 Girls), Brendan Chow also finished 12th (12-13 Boys), and David Hiebert was 10th (14&O Boys). The team watched Fionnuala McKenna swim an incredible wire-to-wire win in the 14&O Girls 50 FR from lane 8 for our first gold medal of the meet. Teagan Hunt placed 14th in the 200 FL (12-13 Girls), while Taiki was 8th (12-13 Boys). In the 100 BK Naeva was 7th (11&U Girls). The last event of the night was the 200 FR Relay and PCS swimmers put together some very exciting swims. Our 12&U Girls A team of Sydney Meldrum, Kali Lancaster, Bijou Speirs and Trinity Aragon-Scriven won our second gold medal of the night looking very strong. Our B team finished 12th overall. Our last swim of the night saw the 13-14 Girls team of Mackenzie Hepner, Jane Maycock, Kali Lancaster and Fionnuala McKenna win a bronze medal.

Looking to more fast swims on day 2, well done PCS!
