Canadian Junior Championship Highlights

We had 8 athletes travel to Toronto this past weekend for the 2024 Canadian Junior Championships. PCS came home with 4 medals, and placed 4th out of all the BC teams attending, and 12th overall in points out of 140+ teams.

To start us off, Rubin Lee placed 9th in finals in the 100m backstroke with personal best time.  Mila Chernenkoff is attending her first National Championships, and she showed off her fitness on day one coming from 14th rising to 6th spot in the 400m Freestyle and earning a best time. The PCS 15 and under 400m Mixed Medley team of Lee, Zhou, Chernenkoff and Sanborn took 7th spot.  On the second day of the seven day event here in Toronto PCS was running hot. Mila Chernenkoff lopped almost 40 seconds off of her 1500m time which shot her from 14th to 7th.  Kieran Feenstra ripped a second off his personal best in 100m breast at 1:07, one of many drops over the last few months of the season. Maëlle Sanborn ran the top seeded girl down all the way through the second 50m to finish just behind for the silver. En route she put up club records at 50 and 100m in the same swim and sent her under the existing Canadian Trials time and earning PCS's first medal of the meet. Our boys 4x100Freestyle relay had best times for Kieran Feenstra and Eason Zhou. Rubin Lee struck another second off his previous best over 200m backstroke, moving up from 17th to earn 9th spot in the final. 100m freestyle Mila Chernenkoff surprised even her best expectations and came from 37th spot to 9th, shearing two seconds off of her PB. Also on the docket tonight, Sophie Wood will compete in 100m Fr from third spot in the Para division. The PCS mixed 400Fr relay will go into the final in 7th place (Lee, Chernenkoff, Zhou, Sanborn). On the last day of the event, Maelle Sanborn placed 1st in the 200m breaststroke with a best time of 2:35 and a new club record. Mila Chernenkoff was seeded 1st going into the 200m freestyle, and went a huge best time of 2:06 and came out with a gold medal. Sophie Wood earned herself a silver medal in the Women's para 50m freestyle, just over her best time.
