Cracker Wrap Up

PCS Team Cheer Picture

After three days of competition Santa and the Grinch packed up for another year. It was one of the biggest and best yet. At 750 athletes and three pools the 12th PCS Xmas Cracker created a lot of cheer…and fast swimming.

PCS lead the way with numerous new qualifiers for AA and AAA Prov Championships in the new year. As well Michael Schmidt (12) achieved his first Age Group National qualifying times. Four UVic Vikes qualified for the CIS champs to be held in February 2015, Rosie Moulton, Richard Bourgeois, Aidan Thirkell and Craig Dagnall.

Molly Gowans (15) went on a record breaking rampage. Although not rested for the meet, she was swimming large. She took top spot in 4/5 races and set new club milestones for the 15-17 age group in 50 BK (29.7), 100(56.8), 200(1:59.1), 400(413.8), 800(841.6) and 1500(16:36) FR, a Vancouver Island Regional Record in 200 FR (Kate Brambley in 1995) and 1500 FR, and a Senior club record in 200 FR surpassing the mark set by MacKenzie Downing in 2010.

Our 11-12 Girls and Boys were busy resetting the record books also..Michael Schmidt was also in record setting form breaking club records and taking 3rd in the 50 BR (35.7), 2nd in 100 BR (1:14.2) and 2nd in 200 BR (2:48.0). Dylan Kormendy (11) added the 400 IM (5:24.9). The team of Kormendy, Schmidt, Keir Ogilvie and Nate Troung broke the relay record in 200 Medley (2:13.8).

Jessica Luo cracked the 11-12 100m FL mark in heats and again in finals settling at 1:07.01 (Bakken ’05) and she helped her relay teammates to re-ink the numbers in 200m Medley (2:11.2) and FR (159.1) (Luo, Lorette, Edwards, MacDonald, Rincon).

Congratulations to all of our coaches for a very strong first major meet of the season! And...

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers from PCS and other clubs who make the Xmas Cracker what it is, and to all of the clubs who travelled from afar to compete.
