Day 1 of CIS Championships

The 2013 CIS Championships were underway in Calgary yesterday, and our Vikes got off to a great start.  At least, for the most part - an illness sidelined two of UVic’s medal contenders, Alec Page and Ian Mattock.

The Men’s 200 Freestyle was a great event for the Vikes, with personal best times from five swimmers: Craig Dagnall, Bobby Harling, Nicholas Sinclair, along with open-water swimmers Richard Weinberger and Zac Parkes.  Of the five, Sinclair advanced to the final, where he placed 7th.  Also in the final was the lone medalist of the night, Keegan Zanatta, who scooped up bronze with a time of 1:47.52.

In the Men's 100 Breaststroke, first-time CIS swimmer Richard Bourgeois competed in the consol final, finishing in 14th place overall and improving on his previous best time by over a second.

The 100 Butterfly saw a lot of action in the finals, with UVPCS swimmers Rachael Newman and Andre Kudaba each competing in the consol finals, and Stephanie Horner in the A final, coming in 7th place.

Horner additionally place 7th in the Women's 400IM.  On the Men's side, two UVic swimmers took part in the A final, with Will Brothers just missing out on the bronze in 4th place, and Eric Hedlin capturing 6th.
