Jon McKay finishes with two medals at Canada Games

Jon McKay (UVPCS) wrapped up the Canada Games for Team BC with an impressive performance which yielded him two medals in the final 24 hours of the Games swimming competition.

Jon McKay won the 1500 Freestyle at Canada Games in a time of 15:40.35, nine seconds ahead of his nearist competitor!  Way to go Jon!

This marks yet another age group club record for Jon, who has been breaking many records in both Freestyle and Butterfly this summer.

Jon will conclude his Canada Games experience Friday with a 5km open water race.  Go Jon!

The Madness Has Ended!

The August 3-4 weekend saw teams from Calgary, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, as well as our own PCS club compete in the 2013 Midsummer Madness meet at Saanich Commonwealth Place.  PCS had a total of 36 swimmers in the meet competing for "Ceramic and Sugar" glory...first place swimmers received official "Midsummer Madness" ceramic mugs filled with jelly beans (along with the more traditional ribbons).

PCS in Open Water Swims Lac St.-Jean and Magog

Aimeson King has been busy in the lakes of Quebec swimming open water swims in the past week.  After finishing 6th in the Lac St. Jean open water FINA World Cup 10km race, Aimeson competed in the Traversee de Lac St-Jean, a 32km FINA Grand Prix race in frigid waters, ~15 degrees Celcius near the start, ~18-19 degrees for most of the race.  It was Aimeson's first race over 15km in race, and Aimeson finished in 9th place among men in a time of 7 hours and 10 minutes.  Great Job Aimeson!

Jon McKay at Canada Games

Jon McKay today started off the medal haul for BC in the pool today at Canada Summer Games.  He won the bronze medal in the 800 Freestyle in a club record time of 8:14.49.  Way to go Jon!

In addition to today's 800 freestyle, Jon will be swimming the 1500 Free, 50, 100 and 200 Fly, before finishing off the meet with a 5km open water race!  Follow Jon's progress here,

Midsummer Madness Meet This Weekend

Only 2 days left before the 2013 Midsummer Madness meet! This is our last meet of year and a chance for swimmers to get the jump on achieving some fast short-course times for next year!

We still need volunteers for timing and stroke and turn, so if you are able to help, your assistance would be very much appreciated.  You can volunteer online from the PCS website.

August 2013 Maintenance Swimming Schedule

As the regular season practice schedules wind down, for those swimmers in A-D groups and LF5, maintenance swim practices will be availabe for the first half of August. 

The maintenance swim schedule will be: August 1 to August 16 - Monday / Wednesday / Friday at UVic, McKinnon Pool from 5:30-7:00pm. There will be a $5.00 drop in fee for the swims.

*Please note: there will be no swim on August 5th because of the holiday.

**Also note the last swim will be August 16 as McKinnon Pool will close for maintenance for the rest of August.

2013 Thetis Lake Swim for MS Results

A small group of 8 PCS swimmers attended the 21st Annual H2O-MS Swim at Thetis Lake.  This was also the inaugural year of the Provincial Masters Open Water Swim.

The weather was sunny and beautiful, and although the water was a little murky, swimmers were reporting that it was fairly warm.

Day 6 - Open Water at Age Group Nationals

PCS came 5th overall as a team in the open water events at Age Group Nationals.  

Justin Howe placed 11th in the 15 year old boys age group.

Jackson Sinclair placed 3rd overall in the 16 year old boys age group.

Vicky Mock placed 2nd  in the 16 and over age group for girls, with Alandra McDowell placing 8th, and Hanna Carter placing 12th overall.

Jordan Andrusak placed 5th in the 14 year old girls.

Final Night of 2013 Age Group Nationals

Montreal: The final day at the Age Group National Championships was a very wet one with torrential rain sweeping the deck during parts of the evening but it was no less successful for the club.
