Final Night of 2013 Age Group Nationals

Montreal: The final day at the Age Group National Championships was a very wet one with torrential rain sweeping the deck during parts of the evening but it was no less successful for the club.

Blair McDowell led out the evening for Pacific Coast Swimming with a come from behind bronze in the 12 year girls 200IM in her personal best. In the next heat Lauren Crisp came on strong in the backstroke and had a best breaststroke-freestyle portion to finish sixth. She was followed immediately by Jordan Andrusak in the 14 year girls. Andrusak put out very strong breaststroke and freestyle splits to snatch bronze by one 10th of a second.

In the 13 year girls 400 Freestyle Molly Gowans was back in action. She lead the field from the first 50 outdistancing her competitors by two body lengths to claim the gold and push the club record down to 4:26.

In the 16-18 girls 400 Freestyls, Vicky Mock (16) came in 4th place in a new club record time of 4:27.24.

The final pool event was the 4x100 Medley relay. Crisp, McDowell, Andrusak and Gowans swam tough in a very exciting race where they were in every position from first to fifth. Gowans came flying home passing two teams but ran out of room to catch the last. The team finished second by a narrow margin taking silver and establishing a new VIR regional record.

Tonight capped off a best performance at the meet for the club. The athletes broke 1 provincial, 5 regional and 18 club records. In the team rankings UVPCS was the top team in BC from Vancouver Island and 7th team on the girls side.

Tomorrow is the Open Water competition. UVPCS will be represented by seven athletes.
