Hyack Invitational Day 3 Recap

The final session of the Hyack Invitational saw twenty-six top eight results by the Bolts that included nine podium finishes.  The New Westminster meet was one of the final tune-ups prior to Pacific Coast athletes’ entering long course championship season with the summer quickly approaching. 

Kelsey Andrusak and Erin Lawrance kicked off the night with silver medal performances in their respective age group categories of the Girls 400 Freestyle.  Close behind Lawrance, was Victoria von Sacken Nash, who swam to an eighth place finish in the 16-18 year old race.  On the boys side, Anthony Guitierrez touched the wall in first place of the 12-13 400 Freestyle in a time of 4:27.98.  Teammate Keir Ogilvie swam to a fourth place, with an impressive seventeen-second personal best, to finish with an overall time of 4:36.53.  

In the Girls 12-13 100 Backstroke, Lily Chen swam to an eighth place, while Dylan Kormendy and Tom Chapman swam to sixth and seventh places respectively in the Boys 12-13 200 Backstroke.  Nathan Chow earned himself an eighth place in the Boys 11 and Under category of the 200 Backstroke. 

Kelsey Andrusak led the way in the Girls 14-15 50 Freestyle with her gold medal performance of 28.20.  Lia Lancaster was close behind with a sixth place finish in a time of 29.17.  Grace MacDonald and Allison Hampton swam to fifth place finishes in the 12-13 50 Freestyle and the 16-18 50 Freestyle respectively, to earn valuable sprint freestyle points for the Bolts. 

Michael Schmidt continued his successful weekend, as he captured a gold medal in the Boys 12-13 50 Freestyle.  Anthony Guitierrez touched the wall in 5th place in the same race, five tenths of a second behind Schmidt. 

In the 200 Breaststroke, Laura Rincon swam to a seventh place finish in the Girls 12-13 year old category.  Sophie Tarrant took home another gold medal, as she swam to a final time of 2:41.30 in the Girls 14-15 200 Breaststroke.  Kelsey Andrusak finished eighth place behind Tarrant.  In the Girls 16-18 200 Breaststroke, Victoria von Sacken Nash swam to a silver medal, while Erin Lawrance touched the wall in fifth place.  Michael Schmidt completed the breaststroke sweep, as he finished first in the Boys 12-13 100 Breaststroke with his time of 1:11.00. 

The 200 IM saw five Pacific Coast Swimming athletes’ swimming in ‘A’ finals.  Sophie Tarrant led the way with her first place performance in the Girls 14-15 age group category of the event.  Allison Hampton touched the wall in seventh place in the 16-18 final.  In the Boys 12-13 200 IM, Michael Schmidt, Tom Chapman and Keir Ogilvie finished sixth, seventh and eighth respectively to wrap up the meet for the Bolts. 

With long course season now in full swing, the Bolts have a busy couple of weeks ahead of them.  The Vancouver Island Regional Long Course Championships are taking place June 3rd to 5th in Victoria, while AA Long Course Provincials are scheduled for June 24th to 26th
