Vikes continue to haul medals in Lethbridge

*See Original Story Here* LETHBRIDGE – The University of Victoria Vikes held their ground with a series of strong performances during Day 2 of the Canada West Swim Championship and still sit comfortably in third in the team standings.

For the second-straight day, the Vikes saw one of their own records fall.

This time it was Bailey Espersen, who eclipsed and 18-year-old mark in the men's 100-metre breaststroke. Despite the incredible achievement, he finished 0.03 seconds back of first and settled with a silver.

Danielle Hanus found her way back onto the podium after hauling in a gold and silver yesterday. This time the Ontario product won gold in the 100m butterfly and broke the Canada West Championship record in the process with her time of 58.65. She earned her second medal of the day when she teamed up with Lauren Taylor, Kyla Ross and Alexandria Hedges to win bronze in the 4 x 100m freestyle.

The men's 400m individual medley came down to the wire with Josh Zakala squeaking past Brodie Young of UBC for gold.

Local swimmer Lauren Crisp snagged the bronze in the 200m backstroke and was one of the top performances she has put together this season since taking two years off from swimming.

The Vikes also saw a handful of great races from other swimmers that helped prop the team up in third in the standings.

Finishing split seconds off the podium and in fourth were Ross (400m IM), Zakala (200m back), Jamie Hellard (100m breast) and Daniel Freer in the 100m breast.

The competition wraps up tomorrow with plenty of more medal opportunities on the line along with chances to improve the men's and women's score. Follow the Vikes by streaming the webcast on CanadaWest.tv.
